Tallison -> F4U w/ retracts, Flaps, and folding wings (2/7/2009 5:18 PM)

I'm new to flying, but I've always liked the F4U corsair. No it's not because of Pappy Boyington and the black Sheep Squadron although that is what first got me interested in them. It's because there was no plane in the Pacific theater of WWII that had the kill ratio that it had. An impressive 11:1, the plane is also credited with a jet kill in the Korean war, by the way the pilot who performed that feat was a Korean war ace using the F4U Corsair. I'm curious if anyone knows of a manufacturer or set of plans for a 60 size or larger of the F4u Corsair that has the folding wings, retracts, and flaps that has a decent scale look? If you do could you send me the link or any other contact information that you might have for them. Thanks[:D]

There is the Brian Taylor Corsair that's about 75inch wing. Earl Aune built one with folding wings and maybe still sells the mechanism he used. Traplet is now selling BT plans and partial kits. I'm not sure about the Corsair but you can check. It's very scale too. Bob Holman in the US sells Brian Taylor plans.

Here's a link to a picture of the plane:

Thats one nice Model. Thats a F4U-5N night fighter. And by the way the Ace that shot down the jet in the Korean War was Guy Bordelon.

Hi thanks for the link. Do you know if the plane your talking about had functional flaps? The other question is do you know how to contact Earle Aune? Thanks for letting me know.

The plane has functional flaps. You can probably get a hold of Earl via http://www.scalemasters.org/Home.html
