this is such a great thread, I sure envy anyone with the room for that plane, and the folks that get to see it fly.

Paul
Im finishing up my 1/3 DVI and I wanted to know how you routed your aileron servo wires. I see a pic of them in your last post but I cant tell how you did them. Are they running through the strut then out a hole prior to the JB weld and cotton inside the strut or did you have the wire go all the way though the cotton and JB weld using a brass tub or something? I guess what Im asking is how you did yours and if I need to do anything special to assure the JB weld will hold with the servo wire going through it.
Glen B.

Glen,
I ran them through the strut and exited out right before the piano wire.

Hey Paul -

Did you fly it on Sunday and how did the Vess prop work out?

My first flight on Sunday did not have the Vess and on that landing I tweeked the gear.....however the DR1 will be sporting it tonite!!

peckergnatflyer -> RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI (7/20/2009 2:05 PM)

Here is the D6 at the ODP event. The plane is in the "rough" stage...It still needs the paint finished and the guns ,ammo, hood, cock pit, dummy motor,...etc.... (hint hint Mikey) To get it to the minimum of the flying status by ODP was brutal!!.........was it worth it?? Hell Yea!!

Highflyer2 -> RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI (7/20/2009 7:02 PM)

This was my first time at ODP. It won't be my last. Glenn's refreshments, ww1 movies on flat screen, two grass runways. What more could a guy want.

John

Evening, all

Just going through my photos from this weekend's Ohio Dawn Patrol - I'll post these over on the ODP thread in the Scale R/C forum here on RCU, but wanted to first show the photos and video (if it works) I took of the big Fokker's first flight this last Thursday evening:

The aircraft ready for it's maiden voyage:

The take-off run:

And on climbout:

Conditions were perfect for this first flight in the evening sky:

WinterHawke -> RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI (7/21/2009 4:12 AM)

And continuing with the test flight:

Paul Westrich flew the plane, while Sam Parfitt and Paul's brother Joe observe (along with everyone in attendance:

The plane looked great in the air, and flew at a very realistic speed:

I switched over to video at the mid-flight point, as I wanted to capture just how slow and majestic the big bird looked in the air:

My congratulations to Paul, Barry Vogel, Glenn Torrance, and everyone involved in the project - it was a real treat seeing this one in person on it's first flight (one of several successful flights over the long weekend).

Very best regards,

Lee McDuffee
the WinterHawke

peckergnatflyer -> RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI (7/25/2009 1:00 AM)

Thanks Lee for posting the pics and the video...Im glad I did the maiden in front of my fellow Dawn Patrollers. It felt more like support behind me instead of pressure!..it made it easier.....I still crapped my pants though.............. I just got back from the Aeromodelers field with my last load of equipment ....can you believe it?? a week later... Doug and Lee I do not envy you....the same but on a grand scale! GOOD LUCK!!!

Our next step is to repair/reengineer some of the plane...just a couple of things,(yes I know about the N strut DOUG!!) We will finish the paint scheme, get all new QD hardware, new axle (drill rod), weld the struts, see how Mike Celeskey is doing on the guns, ammo belt,etc... we still have a long way to go folks so keep checking in and dont be shy if you have a opinion you want to share,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,IT FLYS!!!!!!![sm=tongue_smile.gif][sm=tongue_smile.gif][sm=tongue_smile.gif][sm=tongue_smile.gif][sm=tongue_smile.gif]

WinterHawke -> RE: Half Scale Fokker DVI (7/25/2009 2:09 PM)

Good morning, Paul

Yeah, lots of 'Schtuff' goes into one of these events - don't know 'bout anyone else, but I spent most of the week trying to catch up on sleep!!! Yeah, Dayton is gonna be something - but first we need to get to Muncie for the Hoosier Dawn Patrol!!

Got one more short video of the 'Big Dog' in action - I cannot emphasis enough just HOW good this plane looks in the air - just about the most realistic speed I've ever seen in a model. The video really doesn't do it justice:

http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y113/WinterHawke/2009%20Ohio%20Dawn%20Patrol/?action=view¤t=MVI_1453.flv

Once again, congratulations on very successfully completing that most important first milestone on a scale model - the test flight - and I can't wait to see her completed and flying at future events!!

Very best regards,

Lee
