This is an awesome kit, my local model shop just got one in, its £680 + £250 for the retracts & £50 for the oleo's.
I checked out the contents & i was impressed!, fiberglass fuse/ carbon fibre..& built up wings...not a matt finish, more satin.
comes with scale spinners!.
I'm thinking this one over...btw, great full colour build manual

Are you sure on the fiberglass? It was suposed to be plastic. Not my favorite material.

Thanks.

Im looking hard at this plane. Lets add it up.

B-17 ARF $1400.00
Retracts $ 500.00
Struts $ 65.00
Motors (glow ) $1000.00
Servos/receiver $ 700.00
Shipping (all) $ 200.00

Total Approx $4000.00

That is a lot of money for one plane. Its in a used car price range. That's kinda hard to hide from the wife. I think I can do it, but hey, I've got some skills! I love the plane but there has to be some price wiggle room when your talking about $4000.00

speedracer2112,

last I knew it is high impact plastic "ABS" material similar to the ASM HERCULES...
it is thick and very durable...

What are you planning on using for glow on the LANCASTER???
I am going to offer magnum .52 4 strokes at a discount to my customers when they buy
the ASM B17 or Lancaster ...

Still showing arriving in approx Last day or so in JULY or Early AUGUST...

Speedracer.....Well i assumed it was that, but i feel its a hybrid ABS/fibre?...i broke open the box @ my local mod shop & looked at various items...built up wings, a satin finish..i prefer matt.
One good addition was the four scale spinners..quite weighty & felt good quality.
I spent more time reading through the full color manual...witch was quite comical in places!, anyways...the build in the man is based around the 14 chan R6014HS & bumps the Futaba 10CG & OS 56 alphas.
All good stuff...my local has the full kit in now, retracts set/oleo's even the plastic bombs set.
Total bill for me here for the kit & bits is £1,000...
I'll stick with my twins.....ie , Mossy & duelist.

The B-17 is my target. No real thread running yet.

I want to use either Saito 62's $244.00 each or OS56a's $309.00 each (-$100 in coupons and rebates = $209.00 each). My good friend and technical advisor has asked for these. He and I want ZERO hassels with the motors. I have OS81a's on my B-25. Ive never had an engine failure that was the engines fault and only one that was my fault. Id rather throw a few more hundred at the motors than loose a plane trying to save a few bucks.

I still have to deal with dropping the $1480.00 for the plane!!

Thanks!

SR

I have two saito 62's in a couple of warbirds..sound superior to the 56@ of which i have one of...56 is a far softer exhaust note..but is better on fuel & ultra clean..a superb engine!
But when your talking 4 to buy...it has to be the saito 62's....mine have never deadstick'd & are totally reliable...i'm on 18% fully synth oil & 16% nitro...love those engines!. how can you argue at the price difference & higher power output.

Next question. Should you buy these from VQ Warbirds or from Hobby People? Whats the difference? Who and why? I'm not looking for the down side here. I'm looking for positive input. Please don't bash either.

I have three Saitos. Ive only used one (FG-20) and the other two (FA-125s)are for a ESM B-25 that has hit the back burner before it even got started because this plane (B-17) showed up. Ive seen you at the FG-20 thread. That motor stinks. $600 down the drain. Its hard to trust Saito after that.

Speedracer,

Cannot speak for HobbyPeople, but Tomas, from VQ Warbirds is a very customer-service type of guy. I bought an ESM plane from him once and it was so bad it was comic. He fully refunded and paid the shipping for the return.

I highly recommend his company to do business with for any purchase. He is an honorable man. P.M. me if you need further details.

SR....Hah ha Disregard the debacle that was Fg20!!...saito should not have converted a glow as we all know, but simply redevelop...& i beleive they will perfect them, either that or OS stamp on their heads with a superior product
My engine was returned & after one week they gave me a later complete brand new unit!!...i gave it back & swapped it for a superior SC120MKII & a new Tah152 Focke wolf kit.
I have two Saito 125a's & never missed a beat....so far, awesome power to weight engine

SR....Hah ha Disregard the debacle that was Fg20!

I hate being the test dummy!! I love the new stuff so I wind up offering myself up.
FG-20 HOLY COW!!
H9 Blue Nose P-51 CRIKEY!! 65" wing span at 14 pounds!! OMG!!
Bannana Hobby ( I shutter at the name!! ) FA 18 90mm Jet!! SOaB!!!

So, here we go again. But the price tag is much, much, much higher this time!! At $4000.00 I want a plane I can love like my TF B-25. I fly that thing every week like a foamy!! It never lets me down.

Somewhere in my future there is a B-17. Question is which one?

I started shopping for my motors today. I went to my LHS and looked at both the OS56 and the Saito62. Best price so far is the OS motors at $196 each. I have a couple other calls in for the Saitos. I could kick myself for not buying them when Saito had there sale a few weeks ago. 33% off all there motors. I did pick up 2 FA-125s.

Im going to start making a test stand next weekend for breaking them in and tuning.

Hi Thomas
Is there an ETA for the mosquito? How big will it be? What size engines? I was following a forum in the UK where there were hints of a Mozzi buit it seemed that nothing was going to come of it.
If there is going to be a quality ARF mozzi,I need to start stashing money away!!!

Regards
Dave Read

P.S

How about a 100" ARF PBY-5A Catalina - way cool !!!

Hay Lifer,
I concur, and "dido" all you said about Thomas and VQ.

I just bought an Airtronics 10 ch. Tx with two 8 ch. receivers from him, and an easy man to do business with. I'm not dealing with a big corp. mind set, but an individual I can talk to and he will always honor the deal.

I have a Royal B-17 kit, and three of the four engines I need to fly it. I just don't have the space to house such a big model, where I live now and I've wanted to build this Royal kit for 20 years or more.

I will be watching the first build ups of this new set of bombers.

Soft Landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

I found these on the Hobby People site. They are the assembly instructions in full color. They show a very nice product. I only saw one issue. The model in the manual is actually broken at the nose glass installation step where you expect a problem to occur. Overall they both look great!

New ASM Lancaster
Well today I saw the new Lancaster ,Not being married long I wondered if I could get away with a new extra large aricraft in my collection now there is no way you can say that I've had it for ages ,so I payed a deposit and headed home wondering how I was going to let the cat out of the bag and keep the marrage on track Knowing that I was not a huge amount of money out of pocket if the roar was too long or loud, Well the good news is all that was said was ''That Nice, where are you going to put it''. Now that death has been look at in the face, I will go and pick it up next week. The only thing that has been stated by the minister of war is that I need to find a parking spot for the TF B25, I'll face that problem when its next on topic and far to late to take the Lancaster back. I will post photos next week when I get my hot sticky little hands on it. Yours Paul T
