You'll love the Cheetah! I have flown my Hawk with both my P-120SX and Cheetah. The performance is WAY better on the Cheetah! Good choice!

What are the pro's and con's of running a Tamjets pipe? I know they are very light. I will be using the Derjet cockpit and I figure I should get those two things initially. That way I can ensure the equipment install will not interfere with the cockpit tub and I can pick and position the lightest batteries to power everything. I will be running smoke so with that and the cockpit adding weight Tams pipe and those batteries can subtract some.

I have a Tam's pipe in mine, no drawback that I can see other than the additonal cost. Can't remember how much exactly but there was a substantial weight savings over the stock pipe.

In Europe...99% of people run the stock "heavy" pipe...lightest Hawk anyway, with the Cockpit only a small amount of weight would be needed

I am getting the stock CARF sport retract set that comes with the combo. It looks like the steering servo bolts directly to the nose gear frame. What servo should I use? Digital? MG? DS8411 seems a little bit overkill here.

As a general rule, I use 300+ oz torque servos for all of my planes. The nose wheel is constantly getting a load on it during taxi, take off, landing, so I don't consider a 8411 overkill... I consider it the minimum.

I used a Hitec 645 on the nose gear sterring. Metal gears and enough power and fast enough.

Dont use digitals on nosegear. HS 645MG for instance. Works perfect for 3 years.

I used a Futaba brushless BLS 352 as I had this spare, high torque metal geared. Has been 100%

Well they are made for steering!

Wow thanks for the input, guess there is a lot if interest in the Hawk. My other servo related dilemma is i have a couple of DS8717 heli cyclic servos which are used and I thought I could use them for flaps, they are basically 8711's with different gearing, 196 oz in and super fast. But i would use the Tx function to slow them to operate the flaps, i guess it would work, not more powerful just a good servo and the price is right!

You can ofcourse. But "best practise " is an analog because
-you dont need the possibly better accuracy of the digital
-the digital will use much more current bacause it will try to achieve its position harder
-thats leads to faster wear of the MG and linkage
-waste of money..

Like Ela said, but current draw with the model on the ground...moving in a cross wind just sitting will be high and it might fry! Linkages tend to be tighter and this means the servo motor is constantly taking power to "hold" its position
