Status: offline 		I put mine behind the spar along with the minature screened cable for my wing tip NAV lights, bit fiddly but it keeps cables out the way I also used minature cable ties to loom all the wires when they came out the slots in the spar. I just threaded them behind the spar and used a bit of 2mm wire as hook to fish out.
If I remember right my aileron wires did come through with the flap wires. I will see if I have any pics.

Status: offline 		Finally got flights three four and five in yesterday as it was a warm day for this time of year but we had heavy fog and a low ceiling till the early afternoon. I just felt the need to post again how this plane flies so well. I guess that's why I see so many at the jet events. Do most Hawks fly this good? It just goes where you point it and seems to have no bad habits. We had nearly a breeze yesterday and landings were uneventful. Just a happy customer.

Most Hawks are good, I still think the CARF one is exceptional. Size to loading is great, its more sports jet than scale Jet. Some of the ARF's are a little heavy to be as easy going, but still fly well.

Status: offline 		Nose gear doors driving me nuts! any one got tips or close up pics of the door ? not sure if im putting the hinges on the doors in the right location, the first try i had them too close to the edge and the hinge would hit the fuse when trying to open, then i placed them further in but when i try to swing the door open the door edge hits with the fuse opening. The manual says to keep the hinge rod straight but when i placed the supports to maintain the rounded shape of the door the rod follows the shape of the door.
any help greatly appreciated.

Dave is spot on (as usual). My Skymaster Hawk flys heavy and you can feel the mass through maneuvers. The CARF Hawk on the other hand feels more nimble.

This is the manual model as I did it. You can pick up some points. The hinges need to go against the fuse opeing when fully open. The rod goes from almost at the skin from the rear to packed off at the nose. I then tacked front and back hinges only to the door with CA and then swung the mid hinge into place and packed.
You can just see the packing under the white pivot tube (added after the wire has been tacked in place. I put the white tube on the wire spaced around the hinge positions.

Status: offline 		Dave, Thanks for the tips!, I found what was causing my problem, the mid hinge. I was tacking all 3 hinge on before going in trying to tack the tubing in on the fuse, after a ton load of trying different hinge positions on the door i decided to remove the mid hinge and just try the forward and aft one and it works perfectly free as it can be no binding, so I'm thinking if it would be strong enough just with those two hinges ?
the problem the mid hinge was causing is it would force the rod upwards when i try to open the door, now I can see in your pics that the mid hinge does not sit flat on the door like the other two.

Status: offline 		I'd keep three, I went that way as in flight the load is high on the doors, look at the open shot and you can see they are spread slightly (this is good as it keeps them clear of the nose wheel) I packed the third hinge with balsa and its been good for hundreds of flights mine has had.

Status: offline 		Been doing some upgrades on my Hawk over the winter months. Added FEJ cockpit, scale pilot and canopy hoop. Repainted rear fin to properly accomodate the decals from Tailormade. Added nav. lights and landing light and fuselage scoops.

Overall weight gain was 1lbs as I was able to remove my 9oz of lead balast from the nose.  All ready for the spring

We fly the same jets from the same flying fields and mine is bone stock. Mine will not look as nice now.

Status: offline 		That looks just great! Good job on the tail. I have a complete set of touch up paints from CARF and the Tailormade decals as well, I plan to do the same. Did you take the fin down to primer or just the part where the new paint is? I have also ordered the Derjet cockpit but where did you get a pilot figure? Did you make it yourself? I am looking at another 4-5 weeks for my kit to be delivered (paid for last Nov) oh well, great anticipation!

The cockpit is the 1/5.5 scale FEJ one, I had to "stretch" it about an inch and widen it about 1/4" to fit. The pilot was from a guy who advertises on RCU. I think he makes(assembles) them himself.

I'm hesitant to say where the light kit is from because I've been disatisfied with the service and can't recomend him....at least yet. I ordered the light kit and Hawk accessories kit back in Oct. and received it 3 weeks later than promised and it was missing a bunch of key parts. After numerous emails and promises to ship the parts, I still do not have them. Subsequent emails went unanswered until just this morning, likely because I got annoyed and filed a Paypal disput with the vendor just yesterday.  I've been told the missing parts will now ship Monday....we shall see.

I only had to partially paint the fin. The top black area was painted and extended to cover the top white stripe. A new white stripe was created below that by cutting into the existing red area. Only these areas were primed. it was not necessary to shoot red or blue, just the top black and white.

Status: offline 		As Alan said, the Der Jet cockpit is a PITA to get in. I ordered the Skymaster cockpit, which requires less work to fit and is nearly 1/2 the price.

Status: offline 		Too late for me now, I am surprised to hear it will be difficult to install. As for 1/2 price that was not my experience. I saw BVM as a dealer for Skymaster and obtained a quote from them that was about 30$ less than the Derjet.

Status: offline 		The Derjet cockpit is really well done and worth the money. Only work needed is to the front section, I have seen 3 or 4 different methods of fitting (some shown back on this thread) and all work fine. I'm not sure if I have pictures of the one I did for a customer.

I am just starting to put my Comp ARF Hawk together, hoping that someone can assist or point to the right place.
I have the scale undercarriage and am wishing to disassemble, prime and paint the struts and wheels in the correct grey colour.

Has anyone had any experience disassembling the scale wheels ?
I can disassemble the nose-gear without issue but removing the main wheels from the main struts seems to be a problem.
I have withdrawn all the mounting screws but the main wheel will still not come off the strut or axle.

(Note I have had experience with BVM products so I am not a newby to jets :-) )

Status: offline 		Worth the money is all subjective of course. I felt it was worth it on Hawk #1, but not Hawk #2. The DJ cockpit is more detailed than SM, but this is a sport jet for me, so that wasn't an important consideration this time around.
