Needless to say but you would not fix a climbing problem with rising the turbine to get a pitch down effect. That will only lead to strange behaviour (nose down) when when you are making a fine slow by and then throttle up. Very bad for short landings, takeoffs, knife edge and and and...
The thrust line in my opinion must always be parallell to the centerline. Where to mount the turbine to achieve that is the question in my opinion.

A better fix would be to move the CG more aft if the plane handles it. Or use some mixing in your fantastic radio.
Just some thoughts from one who hasn't even bulid his Hawk jet.

Here are a few pics of how I mounted the main gear door to the gear leg.

I also included a pic of some little box that is made up of supplied plywood parts but the manual gives no hint of what it is. Anyone know what its for?

Regarding the carbon tube for the stab pivot; should it be cut flush with the outside edge of the fuse before putting the plates supplied for the stab to keep it from coming out? Nothing in manual about this either.

Jeff

Yes, cut off flush, we never came up with a 100% solution and every Hawk I've seen has a different option-all work

Has anyone having a problem with the Hawk bouncing hard (high) on landing. the springs seem to produce a really strong action, if the landing is a little hard....has anyone installed a stop on the main gear to reduce the amount of spring action in the gear ?

I think if you land anything "heavy" it will bounce. I haven't made a stop yet, but it's such an easy aeroplane to land softly!
Even with stops it will bounce, it just won't hit the gear doors on the legs.

i have just finished the hawk, but unfortunately weekend in Sao Paulo - Brazil was windy and rainy so maiden was postponed.
Comp-Arf is getting better and better and this one is a great ARF with good craftsmanship. only a few things are left to be guessed by builder and a few mods are due.
i had to wedge shim both main LG to deepen the wheels on the wings in order to set the proper toe in of them (otherwise they would hit the main doors)
nose gear was made as full size with 3 doors |(one is spring operated)
main gear outer doors where left closed, seems that they cut them with a high open angle, and when opened they would add considerable drag and probably operation wouldn´t be reliable.
cockpit interior is and adaptation of Skymaster Hawk
CG was dead on spot with battery arrangement.
following Celso De Santi suggestion, gear doors closes when gear is out, to lower drag in flight
i had fixed the doors to the struts with carbon fiber rod spacers and 4/40 bolts attached to the tapped struts, stiff and looks good as well
will post about maiden when it happens!

Good work here. I see you have made a couple of changes like moving the main tank a bit aft. Smart. What i don't understand is that you are the only one that have made corrections to the main LG to achive correct toe in and clearance. I have also struggled a bit here to get the Scale gear in.
-Either the other builders don't care about the toe in gear door clearance problem or
-they don't say anything about it or
-there are difeerences in CARF production line. Or?

Comments everyone ?

Yes, very nice.

We have three Hawks locally and 2 more bieng built, none have had a problem on the main U/C. my model the tyre does touch the inner door, but the door shuts fully.
Nose doors and main doors stay open as scale and no problems. The only issues we had are where large bore tubing is used to the gear which seems to drop the pressure when the valve opens, this stops the gear going away unless the take off speed is slow.

If you have a double tank you can fly for 18 minutes +, with a P120 I fly for 12 minutes and still have fuel with the stock tank.

Enjoy

Dave
PS the Final updates on the instructions will be finished and posted very soon

I had a lot of problems fitting my main gear. but worked it out, no other issues, I think CARF does a great job, like anything else, sometimes the QC goes to sleep or can't count

PM me your findings and I'll see if it's anything we can look out for.

It's a great aeroplane, really like mine.

hello Ela! thanks for comments!
the main tank wasn´t the original one, i had a little smaller and then added the second Du-bro to achieve the same capacity. if we ordered the original tank later, i wuld finish the plane before it arrives, so i just replaced it...
regarding the LG, i don´t think that Comp-ARF models have differences, since they are made with CNC routed ply parts and i belive thety have good jigs. the shim needed was less than 3/32 so this may be due to little tolerance left for glue space to bond to composite skin. maybe if i had left them touching the doors they would close, but i choose to make it without rubbing. one thing is sure, the doors shuts with strong power!
Dave, thaks for information. since the owner haven´t maiden flight the model, we have to wait to see if the valve can keep up with the airspeed pressure. we had the same problem with the Tucano Turboprop.
as i have said before, i am really satisfied with C-Arf quality.
next on bench is a Bandit....

Where did you get the cockpit from?

I have the same scheme version; it looks real good in finished form.

Your workmanship is great.

hello Jeff!
thank you !
cockpit is Skymaster Bae Hawk slightly modified to suit, bo no big deal at all, fit´s very well. i have glued 1/16 s/c ply rails to the plastic cockpit lips and then spot glued to the inside airframe of canopy, this way when you open up everything comes out toguether.
i agree with you, this one is the best looking of the " sport" versions

Late happy Xmas present arrived with us late yesterday, delayed by the snow it missed by over two weeks!
Couple of things to note, the fuel tank is actually over 4ltrs, not the 3.2ltrs originally thought! A couple of the recent kits have had the aileron servo wood mounts missing from the packs, if you are ordering around now check your kit when it arrives and get your rep to chase it up so it does not delay you later.

Hi everyone. Just for interest I ordered my Comp ARF Hawk via Motors and Rotors and took delivery a couple of weeks ago. Already got the fuz done, just started the wing.
Just wanted to say that this kit is a real pleasure to put together (you could hardly call it a build!). I chose to put a Booster 160+ in it (came same day as the kit, thanks Motors and Rotors your service
is second to none!!) as I am a big fan of these turbines.
Obviously I will be winding it back to about 110,000!
Here's some pics of my install (you can't have too many ideas to play with but this one works for me). I chose to make the radio tray easily removable
by using connectors all round. I know you could argue that I am introducing more failure points but in all honesty most quality connectors are so reliable nowadays that providing they aren't
under tension and well thought out you really shouldn't have any bother. After listening to Dave W I decided to mount the turbine above the rails so just tapped out the 4mm holes in the bracket
to take 5mm set screws and scewed in to them. Tail pipe was no prob as the elevator tray is now positioned 10mm higher in the fuz. Installing the nose gear doors was a doddle. I simply cut the doors to fit,
Taped them shut, then dropped the assembled rods and hinges in from the top. I just poked them into position, spot glued them with slow ZAP, then opened the doors and added BVM Aeropoxy plus a couple of
shim blocks about mid way to allow the centre part of the doors to clear when opening.
After seeing Dave Wilshire fly his Hawk at Scampton jet meet I just had to have one !! Can't wait to fly it!!
Ran the turbine up today (in the model). feels like a proper jet now!!

BTW my kit was also missing the aileron boxes but I just copied the elevator boxes before building them up! At least I got both wing fences, you get two duplicate pre painted sheets so you also now
end up with a few extra bits. If I had to find fault with this kit all I could scratch for is that there is virtually no room to fit the covers that go each side of the elevators to cover the clearance cutouts in the
fuz for elevator movement. I decided to leave them off as after all it is a sports jet.

Nice neat install...I like the mirrored valves!
With the tailplane side plates, if the tailplane cover is being pulled in slightly it bows and can reduce the gap. The rear ply tongue just needs a shim gluing on the back edge to take the compression off the cover.

Get a set of Tailor Made Decals and we have the start of a RA team!!
