My sources tell me that Spektrum in limited to 7channel and below radios for now and anything 8 and above is JR.

I would agree with your sources Mike.

In fact I have a hunch that the DX7 got its start in a JR lab since it resembles the JR radios so closely.

DSM2 support above 7 channels is provided by Spektrum 2.4GHz modules for JR and Futuba.

Also, lack of a model match is not a show stopper for me, it just mean it is easier to swap receivers across different planes an long as you are careful to select the correct airplane on the Aurora.

I think I will hold off buying or replacing any Spektrum gear.

John

Wow!  That's a pretty impressive demo.  The Aurora looks very user friendly for folks not used to programming a computer radio.

Mike.
Is there a chance that Hitec release a new Aurora 12 ch. radio?
Aurora 9 is wonderfull BUT:
1. Could be a full 2.4GHz dedicated radio
2. 12 ch full proportional
3. Be compatible with MicroSD or similar storage cards to expand memory and change and share model profiles, altough we can connect it to PC
4. A color LCD screen (yes, it makes a big difference to our eyes)
5. If possible, a Bluetooth or IR port to connect it to a PC.

Aurora 9ch radio uses a cable attached to 2.4module to the transmitter.
I am concerned about damage to this cable while using this radio.
As a pro class radio, a 12ch system could be only 2.4Ghz dedicated.
Congratulation to Hitec people.
Aurora is a new concept, a new step forward in RC transmitters.
Best Regards
Henrique

Myself, I see the fact that they have *NOT* locked it in to 2.4, and still give the end user flexibility to be a huge strength! Don't change a thing, unless you want to add back in 50MHz support!

Anything is possible, but we're focused on the Aurora 9 at this time. Who knows what the future will bring?!?!?

Hey Mike,

As long as people are putting in wish-lists: I think OLEDs would be great for a R/C transmitter. I have fits with my LCD when I am wearing my polarizing sunglasses (which in Arizona it pretty much any time the sun is up).

For now I would be happy seeing the Aurora make its planned shipping dates and get the 6 ch receivers to market.

BTW: is any size & weight info available for the Aurora compatible receivers?

John

I think Hitec did their home work on the BODA (boosted omni-directional antenna) deal. I always believed a system that had to have 3 & 4 recievers and sattelites had an inherent design flaw. Me thinks Hitec did it right if they can get away with only one antenna on the reciever. It would be nice though to have a reciever with connections for higher current batteries something like JR has done, since the standard connector is only rated for 3 amps and sometimes you have to use two or more into the reciever so as to not overload a single connector. It's long over due.

One more fact that might be of interest as of late... the Optima line of receivers will handle up to a 2S unlegulated lipo to power the servos and all the way up to 6S in the SPC port to power the RX separately.

New Data Transfer video!

Mike What kind of connector on the Optima RX'rs ? I thought they took the standard type connector, which as I noted earlier is only rated for 3 amps.

The bus can handle well over 10A and the 9CH RX has two power ports for the servos. Typically you are fine with up to 6 7955's or similar with a single battery. Powering the RX separately through the SPC (Suplimental Power Connection) allows for even more headroom.

Switches/ Adjusters:
(2) 3 pos
(5) 2 pos
(1) momentary.
(2) Sliders
(3) Digi Adjusters.

Fully assignalble to anything.

Mike.

OK, so what kind of connectors that plug into the Rx can handle 10 amps ?

Ok, so here it is July 1. Is there a better idea on when my aurora 9 will be arriving at my local hobby shop? I have a plane waiting for it. I pre-ordered the 9 channel rec with servos version. Also, plans on the release date for the telemetry sensors and mod? Will all the sensors (rpm, temp, fuel, gps) be released at once? Or will it be a part here and there? thanks

KSH243 - - Mikes Post No. 57 dated 6/30/09 mentions that he will be in Korea this week - but doesn't say exactly for how long. It may still be sometime till we get our new equipment. Bill M.

Saw that. Its what prompted my question really. Wondering how many times it will change. . Old radios are about to go to another home and I may be without very soon.

I have a couple of questions. Any update on when it will hit the stores? Do you have any stats on latency? The new Airtronics looks pretty fast, how does the Hitec compare?

Thanks

The Aurora is still slated for late August delivery. As I have mentioned in the past... the 7CH version will be the first available; the 6CH,9CH and 72Mhz versions will be at least 30 days behind. It's not a good idea to rely on Tower for delivery dates.

Sorry, I don't have the specific latency #'s, but everyone that has flown with it says if feels quick and connected. This will not be an issue... I really think people put too much in the #'s!

The telemetry items are due before the end of the year.

Mike.
