Airtronics compatibility

I have an old-ish Vanguard radio and RX. I purchased a new Artronics charger and fould that the polarity for the receiver was reversed. So a couple of questions from theis "Futaba guy". 1). Did Airtranics change the RX polarity or is mt charger simply wired wrong? 2). When did they change the polarity. 3). How do i know what servos to buy that will be compatible with my system. 4). does anyone have any useful other knowledge regarding this topic?
Thanks
/colin

RE: Airtronics compatibility

Yes Airtronics changed the connector and the polarity on their Rx some time ago. If you have an older radio then it has the connector (called ATX) that is thicker and has some "teeth" looking structure on one side. The red and black (positive and negative) wires are reversed. Airtronics makes an adapter to allow the use of the old to new and vice versa. The new Airtronics is called their "Z" connector and it is compatable with JR and Hitec and looks exactly like them, just a different color, blue. Can also work to a Futaba connector with the tab cut off the male connector. Your old receiver will need the old style plugs or the use of the adapters. There are lots of old Airtronics servos and Rxs out there to use and as you have probably already discovered at very reasonable prices being driven down even further as more and more change over to 2.4GHz systems. I've always had good luck with Airtronics systems. Here is the link for an adapter http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/479400.asp
