Cloud Dancer .40 sized. One of the better builders in my club had a sale, had to sell off his abundance of planes to make room for new ones. Bought a .40 cloud dancer off him for 150 bucks, add fuel and go. Old radio, old HP .40 longstroke w/ a perry carb. Flew pretty good, I really started to like it after the first 25 flights or so. Oh by the by the wing was covered in high viz orange w/ a blue fuse. Back to the story... About 100' up and a couple of rolls wide open throttle. Come out inverted at a bit of a distance, and I thought I was rightside up, looked kindof like a high viz orange blur. Pull back and the plane is screaming down. Roll it up right and save it about 5-10' off the deck with a Loud flutter. Wow that was close, throttle at about half, cut it back some more, and bringing her around for final nice and easy. Whack right into a catchers mit shaped tree. Total Distorted sense of distance, felt that way from the first flight, that high viz hurts to look at on the ground, and throws me all out of wack in the air, that's what I thought about with this plane day one, but alas it did fly pretty sweet. Plane toasted, Engine OK, Junky FMA servos live in the remains in the hanger. I was alone when it happened as I have been on all my crashes (3, 1 was a midair on the buddy box) since I started 4 years ago. I really wish I would dork one on a crowded day because I am really getting tired of the fly this plane for me folks. This started last spring, and do not get me wrong I find it flattering, but it is not what I am about. I do not like flying other peoples planes, it causes me stress, which is not what I go to the field for. Anyone have a good way to fend off the: "can you take this up and trim it for me" "There's no instructer here I want to see how she flys since the rebuild" "Fly this and tell me if you think it needs X-thrust" and my favorite so far "Well no one is here that is good with Warbirds, will you test fly my plane for me" (I do not have any warbirds, and never have) My response: I have currently: Two trainers, a cub, a spacewalker, a venture 60, a Tai Ji 60 pattern plane, and am currently building/assembling a DP330L. In my opinion that hardly qualifies me to fly your mustang, take it home in one piece, please.
