Thought maybe it was time to get a thread going regarding the new and improved hangar 9 pts Mk11 Mustang trainer red tail . maybe we could swap tips on improving this already stable machine. I have about a 2 dozen flights with it and have installed the optional flap servo's and taken the droops off, my next step would be to change the prop.

I have the older version. I can say Im not happy with the engine. It didnt have enough power on take off.
I was wondering have any of you heard of people removeing the weighted flywheel? Or other ways to get better preformance out of the stock engine? I have a feeling I might have to move up to my trusty Super tiger 61.

Wilson, are you flying the three blade prop or a 2 blade prop? Also, do you remove the roll pin from the high speed needle to allow for better leaning of the engine?

Its nice to see some guys using the this new thread! for the MK11 I also found the Engine was not up to par...I pulled it out and sent it back in the mean time I installed a OS 55 Ax in it.

i on the other hand feel it has decent power. i am proped 11x6 and in the yard it takes off with enough room at 3/4 throttle to half flaps down. i had to make the idle mixture richer overall by loosening the set screw in the collar and going twards rich about 1/3 turn. responds better. shame i hit the house and need wings.i will be up in a week or so.

Hi, still waiting for my mustang to arrive, i am going to order a couple of props but don't know what size the spinner needs to be . Also i have noticed some people have a voltage tester attached to there plane to make sure the battery life is ok is this a good idea or not neccessary. Thanks

The plane will come with a spinner
10x6 10x7 10x8 all good props
11x6 or 11x8 will work also, engine just loses
a little top end rpm on the ground. It'll unload and rap up in the air tho.
i even propped my old PTS with a 10x6 four bladed zinger.....flew well and looked ever so cool.
used a 11x7 3 blade too.
didnt like it so much because it flexed as i throttled up. but the plane flew great with it.

just maidened mine last week. i put 2 flights on it and everything held together. i found some spots i need to fuel proof, though. the area under the cockpit and probably the end of the right wing where it meets the fuse. i was surprised how great this plane flies. my instructor had me raise the flaps half way before the first flight, though. other than that it is completely stock.

If it is like the original, it was a 700 MHA battery pack.
you can get up to 2500mha in the same size battery pack.

4.8v 1100mahr nicd I have put at least 6 flight on one charge. On the spektrum you can always plug another battery into the reciever as long as its 4.8 v I'm doing that to mine with a new switch so when the first battery runs down I can just trun on the new battery. Of course COG will need to be checked .

i just went to radioshack and got a 4 aa cell battery holder. i will probally put the 1500mah spectrum cells in it and use them for reciever pack. or i may look around and get a nother pack of duracell precharged 2000mah AA and put them in the plane.
i tried to look at operating voltage of the hanger 9 servos in the plane. if they can do 6vdc i got a single holder to make 6 vdc setup.
what u guys think? 6 vdc reciever pack ok with the mkII?

I doooooo take all those Hangar 9 stickers off your plane... and the training " T " looks a lot better. I even took the Amazing grace off and put my own nose art up front.

Should .. but you might want to look into just buying another 4.8 pack and pluggiing it into your reciever. I picked up a Spektrum batt pack and switch included on Ebay for 11.00 brand new.

went out and had it up in the air this afternoon. worked great. engine is much better with the idle mixture overall richer. the landing gear is strong. i bounced it off the bank just on the top and it bent the one side a bit. what a fun day. up 3 times about 20 min each plus or minus 2 min (last time i was buzzing it open a while and landed about 16 to 18 min) it responds now and does not stall when standing on the throttle.still did not dig out the reciever batteries. that is next project.
