A friend of mine wants to get started in RC slope soaring. I think a foamie would be best for him to start with, even though I intend to help him with a buddy box. (I suspect he will go and try it on his own before he is ready. He's that kind of guy!)

What would be an appropriate EPP ship for him to get started on? I fly power so do not have much experience with foamie slopers.

TIA

The buddy box thing really isnt needed, two of my freinds learned to fly on there own with the DAW I-26 HLG. Build it poly then flatten the wing for an ail. If you go this route make the inner panels the dihedral for ail plan and increase the poly a bit to compensate.

I dont like wings personaly so I wont recomend them. I have seen to many people start on them and have trouble making the transition to a regular plane.

BTW - before you buddy box with your freind get used to a slope. ts different than power.

I dont intend to start a flame thing - its only my Opinion

Not sure why anyone would have trouble transitioning from wings...IMO, they fly just like any other plane...just look different. I have seen people have trouble transitioning away from any kind of foamie if they've been flying them for too long. They never seem to get the hang of landing, since crashing or a hard landing has so little consequences.

Still, I would recommend a foamie of some sort. The 1-26 seems a popular choice, but the wings are good too, and very quick to build. I also like the MAD Highlander built with ailerons and no polyhedral.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The 1-26 sounds like the one, especially since I spent quite a few hours in a full size one 20 years ago!
Haven't slope soared models for over 25 years (that's why I'm out of touch with what's available now, but did put a lot of time on a Windfree back then

the pilots (not all) had trouble with getting used to how a tailed plane flew - I cant put my finger on it but they tended to stall em and over correct. I flew my DAW hlg for about a year till I felt confident enuogh to get a molded rocket.

Odd..perhaps they never had their airplanes setup correctly in the first place. In my experience, a well set up wing behaves pretty much the same way a tailed airplane behaves.
