I'm looking at getting a JKA Mig3 and/or a P-51D. I already have a Futaba Tx and was wondering what servos and Rx you guys are using?

Backwing,

I use a Hitec 555 micro receiver. It will accept 4 servos (or more with Y connectors) plus a battery, is small, and very light. I also use Hitec HS-81 metal gear servos for throttle, ailerons (one servo per aileron in my setups), and elevator. I had the nylon gear HS-81 servos in one plane, and stripped the gears in 2 of the servos, one after a test flight crash, the other after a mid air. I am not sure whether the metal gear servos would fair any better in case of mid-air or ground plant.

The Hitec 555 seem to be what most are using, but can I use it with my Futaba Tx? Or do I just need to have matching crystals?

Oop, just found that Hitec's are made to accept Futaba.

Use a Hitech crystal, not a Futaba crystal.

I'm using a mix of Hitech and FMA receivers.
For servos, I use a mix of hs-225 nylon gear, and hs-85 nylon and metal gear servos on flight controls. I use hs-81s on thottle, and only throttle. The gear train in the hs-81 is really weak, and the pots are known to go bad, so I won't trust it anywhere other than throttle.

I built the Mig-3 this past winter. I used a full size futaba 7 channel receiver (only because that's what I had laying around). I also used a four cell batter pack, again full size. I put a hs-81 on the throttle and a hs-325 (I think) servo on the elevator and ailerons. I'm not sure if that's the number, but is's a mini BB metal gear servo. I thought it might be a bit of overkill, but they are very authorative.
