I bought my 6V Speed 300's from Hobby Lobby in Tenn. they were about $16.00 each. The fans will require some modifications, but according to posts on the ezone it seems to be worth it.

Here is a really informative thread on the GWS A-10, it addresses all aspects of building, flying and hopping it up.

Flew today on a 7 cell pack. It flew much better than 6 cells but needs more thrust. I will wait until my GWS motors smoke, then go with the Speed 300 and 8 cell pack.

Well-

After three taxi runs where I just could not get enough "power" for rotation, the fourth attempt resulted in a short lift-off followed real quickly by a bashed in nose landing. I had reduced the elevator throw - but I'm guessing not enough from the way it reacted in its short flight.

The nose was repairible... in a jigsaw puzzle sorta way. Thats been down as well as removal of the steering servo. I'll rebalance it in the morning and try flying it again.

The A-10 flies well once you get it trimmed and balanced correctly. You'll need some up elevator trimmed to keep it level. I had to use all of the clay in the cockpit but that gave me a perfect balance without steering servo and gear.
I tried to prolong the life of the motors by sticking with 7.2volts (Etec 1200 2S) but that didn't help much. I've heard of guys running 8.4volts with many flights and still strong, I guess it's just your luck how long the motors hold out. Key to this plane is to keep it as lite as possible.
Speed 300 is the best mod so far, going bl adds more weight than improved performance.

A drop of oil on the shafts every couple of flights will help a lot!

i just bought a gws a-10 and am looking forward to getting outside to fly it... ive noticed a lot of people complaining about the lack of power and speed, and was wondering if anybody has tried any cheater holes or changing the shape of the exhaust pipe? in theory, the exhaust cone should be approx. 90% of the size of the fan and a cheater hole on the bottom would increase the amount of intake air.

Fans are not far back enough in nacelle for cheater holes. EDF-50 or 55, best bet is to keep it as lite weight as possible.

I agree, I got rid of the steering servo and added lipo batteries , I still feel the original version was under powered . You have to gain altituide before any safe turn and the plane is pitch sencitive .
