I must ask..
The reason that I got into Align helis is cause I got them used very cheap.
I got one with a lot of damages requiring the complete frame set to be replaced.
and the Align prices will try to swallow my wallet.

So what alternatives are there? Here are somethings that I'd like
1. 100% compatible with Align T-Rex 450 SE V2 and V1 at different times
2. Aluminum blocks between the frames.
3. Not plastic, most preferably aluminum frame but CF is acceptable.

4. Head parts, I have trouble finding T-Rex 450 SE V1 parts the washout mixer
is ..... to find alternatives?

I found this post on another forum, but it should answer a lot of questions about the HK-450...both the good and the bad:

quote:

I bought one (HK-450) as well, had it for a few weeks now. It obviously was made from a real Trex SA, I can see tool marks on the tailboom block where the Align logo was milled off before they used the part to make the mold.

The stock fiberglass blades that come with it are crap, one of them has a very visable warp in it, it doesn't and never will track straight.

The stock socket head screws are also crap, I had heads break off just trying to screw them in all the way, never mind tighten them down.

The plastic used for molding parts seems to be on the brittle side, more so than the stock Align pieces.

The good news is that virtually any Align Trex 450 part is bolt on. My very first heli was an SA, I still have the badly bent original frame from it, and other than the lack of a serial number, the clone frame is exactly the sale. I traded my original SA for my XCell Fury and soon decided I wanted another 450, so I bought the clone. Still had a fairly large stock of Align parts and upgrade bits that never got used on the first Trex, so I swapped them into the clone. I can't tell the difference flying the clone vs the real Trex SA, best $35 I've spent for a small heli.

I just received my Hobby City order....two HK-450 kits with electronics. I've loosened and/or tightened every hex frame screw on both kits and none of them stripped or came close. I have a brand new quality 1.5 mm hex driver so maybe if you use a cheap or worn out one you'll have problems, but I'm not seeing any problems yet.

Hobby City even threw in 3mm screws for my motors (I forgot to add that in) and 2 Turnigy straps....both are turned out...LOL.

I just ordered a HK 450 with two of the $17.00 Zippy lipos. Total was around $70.00!! Amazing! I think with shipping I was still under $100.00. Thanks for the thread guys!

Anyone compare the HK to the exi. I know the exi is supposed to be completely parts interchangeable with the trex, is the HK the same way?

Yes, the HK450 is a Trex 450 SA clone, with a few differences......... Bottom plate on the HK is plastic, the SA is aluminum. Screw heads strip out easily( I purchased the SE screw set for mine). There is an issue with the "tail drive gear and pulley" spinning freely on some. Early models had mismatched blades.
I put the Copter X head and tail on mine.
Most all the info you need for that particular helicopter can be found here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=976255

Don

I have the SA the bottom plate is plastic. I think you are thinking of the motor mount, On the SA it is aluminum.

You are correct, I was thinking of the motor mount.
The HK 450 screws are junk, I purchased a new Align screw set for mine(just in case).
There are a few problems with the heli (and there is a huge thread on RC Groups covering it), but nothing that can't be changed easily.
But for 35 bucks..............can't beat the hk 450....IMHO ( I bought 2)
Don't forget to check out Tech Model Products for parts also. Good place to do business with. http://www.techmodelproducts.com/index.htm

On the motor mount, where they pre-drilled the slots for the motor screws where you can slide the motor back & forth has warped on one side. It bent out a little bit but it's holding. I'm going to order 2 sets of Align's aluminum motor mounts for both of my kits. I already have a few items to order for some of my other heli's so I'll add this to my list.

So far, that's the only problem I've had with the build.

Noob suggested some great popular servo's, but the one you were inquiring about is also a superb servo in which I know a few gents who love it...

Just wondering if anyone has verified that the HK 450 is 100% compatible with the Trex?

It is a 100% clone of the T-Rex 450 SA. I d/l the 450SA manual and all the parts are the same....I think maybe 1 or 2 parts are plastic vs aluminum, but that doesn't affect compatibility.

Hey guys, I want to thank you all the great advice on the hs-65 servos. I just did a test to see if I had the gyro setup correct. Man, it held the tail with no problem. I only thing now it to get my pitch setup. At half stick I got 0 pitch, but at 100% stich i'm only getting +9 pitch and -11 at 0% stick. I think if, I increase my travel range to see if that will help. Any ideal that help me??

I was about to order the HK450 from HobbyCity when i stumble upon this one instead! It's a 450SE V2 clone which basically comes with 4mm feather shaft and a CF body! I couldn't resist it and ordered one instead!

I received a call from aerialhobby and they asked if i like to collect the heli directly from their warehouse instead and i will save on the shipping fee. Since i am only a short drive away, i will probably pick it up from their warehouse later on.

I will post some pics of the V2 clone once i get it and post them here. I am planning to use the following for my setup:

HS65MG for cyclics
Scorpion 2221-10 w/ 15T for power
Reuse my FutabaGY401B gyro from my mini titan heli
MKS9660 servo which i got from hobbycity for tail

One of the main reason why i choose to buy this heli over the HK450 at HC is that this is using a 4mm feather shaft instead of the 3mm one (i called them to confirm before i ordered). At this point of time, the overall cost of this is cheaper than getting the HK450. I am hoping that i will not be disappointed with the quality. (fingers crossed)

Ok, I just picked up the clone SEV2 from Aerialhobby 1 hour ago. I attached some pictures I took below. Few things i noted:

1) There was no manual attached. Although i was assured that the TRex SEV2 manual can be used.
2) Ok, the box was nowhere near that of Align. But at least, it looks better than the while box of HK450...
3) The entire head has already been pre-assembled. But i think i am going to strip everything apart to check for loctiite. For this price, i am skeptical if loctite had been used in the assembly.
4) The tail is also pre-assembled. You just need to insert the belt down the boom.
5) Black CF body, tail and stabiliser fin.
6) Fibreglass canopy (as shown in one of the attached pics below)
7) A pair of fibreglass 325mm blades are bundled in.
8) No decals...

Overall, a very nice looking clone. Head and tail assembly is full metal so no upgrades are necessary. First glance of the heli, it does indeed looks like the TRex SEV2. In fact, I am pretty sure it's a 100% replica...

Now the only question is if it will fly as well....

Can't wait to set it up and do a test flight on it!
