I have one, and love it! I'm buying spares so when I crash and break something, I'm not left without on.

I don't 3D, but I do fast forward flight, and it scoots right along - has not caused my any problem. I'm even running cheap servos (my good servos are in a better bird) - I'm running HS-55's on the cyclic, and a HS-56 on the tail, with a GY240 Gyro. And T-Rex 450 parts are a direct match - I've replaced flybar, main shaft, spindle, tail shaft, boom, etc (when the ground got in my way) - the Align parts bolt right on.

Thanks, Mark

Sounds like you need to adjust your rudder endpoints.

What are your end points set to in your radio - they control how fast the tail spins. I believe they shoudl be 100/100.

Almost forgot - do you have a dual rate setup on the rudder channel? If it's too much of a dual rate, it will slow your spin rate as well.

I have a flasher 450 PE. If the slider is traveling the length of the shaft, you're mechanically maxed out for turn rate. The tail blades on the flasher are a little 'spongy' and have very little surface area, resulting in very poor tail authority. I had corrected this by purchasing tail blade replacements, plastic or cf will do, just be sure they are more rigid and have visibly more surface area. You'll find you will need *much* less slider travel for similar tail movements.

As previously stated, end points govern piro rate not movement on the tail pitch slider.

sorry to crash the thread - but what would be the next step up from these servos

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=662&Product_Name=HXT900_9g_/_1.6kg_/_.12sec_Micro_Servo

cost wise and function wise ... i was thinking of stepping up one lil notch for my 450

I second that - hitec hs65mg's

Other option is to look for the JR servo pack, which has 3 ds285's, and 1 ds3400g for the tail. The price is pretty good on them - HOWEVER, they are not metal geared - and break easily (ask me how I know).

The 3400g is an excellent tail servo, by the way.

Just my opinions, Mark

I will chime in and give any of you interested in my CopterX figures.  I also had the HK450 and was pleased with it except the tail holder clamping would not hold up.  Metal one was the quick answer.  Anyway here is the breakdown in my business-like breakdown of the cost and what I consider the best self build bird for the buck!!

CopterX 450AE complete build costs

With the better electronics parts

COST
SUPPLIER

CopterX 450AE Version II helicopter kit  $      84.00 dlvd Ehirobo
All aluminum version is good quality bird

ELECTRONICS

401B gyro (Hobby King version)
 $      16.00
Hobby King
Futaba 401 knockoff with very good results
Turnigy 3-5a UBEC

 $       7.00
Hobby King
To keep receiver happy with power supplied
MKS ds480 tail servo

 $      23.00
Hobby King
Fast tail servo with metal gears

Hextronik MG-14 servo (times 3)
 $      23.00
Hobby King
Metal Gear servos, nice fit, a bit deep but not a problem
TowerPro H40A Brushless Controler  $       9.00
Hobby King
descent basic controller and cost effective!
Turnigy Typhoon 2215 3550kv motor  $      11.00
Hobby King
rated 3550 but runs more up to 3800kv.  Smooth and quiet
Carbon Hobby CF Blades 325mm  $      12.00 dlvd Ehirobo
cheap carbon fiber blades that are fairly tough in minor crashes
Spektrum 6100e receiver    $      50.00   HeliDirect  (ordered other items to over $100 shipping was free)
APPROX Hobby King Shipping
 $      12.00 ($25 if EMS express)

TOTAL BUILD COST  $247.00
Worth the cost diff from below due to less replacement of stripped gears

Better Parts and smoother flying well behaved helicopter once set-up correctly.

(Cheaper Version)

CopterX 450AE complete build costs

With cheaper servos and using included blades

CopterX 450AE Version II helicopter kit  $      84.00 dlvd Ehirobo
All aluminum version is good quality bird

ELECTRONICS

401B gyro (Hobby King version)
 $      16.00
Hobby King
best bang for buck

Hextronik HXT 900 servo (times 4)  $      16.00
Hobby King
plastic gears = $1 replacement costs
TowerPro H40A Brushless Controler  $       9.00
Hobby King
descent basic controller

Turnigy Typhoon 2215 3550kv motor  $      11.00
Hobby King
rated 3550 but runs more up to 3800kv
Stock Blades w/kit

 $           -
Ehirobo
not that great but will suffice (cheap carbons are much better)
Spektrum 6100e receiver    $      50.00   HeliDirect  (ordered other items to over $100 shipping was free)
APPROX Hobby King Shipping
 $       9.00

TOTAL BUILD COST  $195.00

Cheaper Parts and How I built my first CopterX AE450

** All figures were rounded but total cost is within a couple bucks of EXACT price-out **

*** Kit comes with thread lock, CA, grease/oil ***

You should go over entire helicopter and check and re-do any screws with blue or red loctite.

red loctite is used on Rotor Head assembly, but not all.  Consult an Align 450 SEII owners manual (free off of internet)

Add a Spektrum DX6i transmitter (used) off of Ebay
 $       65.00  May find cheaper

Purchase three Lipo batteries (recommended 2200 mah 20C battery  $       60.00 Zippy flightmax from HobbyKing are $20 approx each

Lipo Battery Charger if you don't have one from any other kit  $20-25

So Cost to build better quality bird from scratch could run  $     397.00 for everything needed to fly if you own nothing to start with.

Cost to build the cheaper version could run approx  $     345.00 for everything needed to fly if you own nothing to start with.

Then you will want to buy extra main and tail blades, feathering shafts, main shafts, tail gear shaft, main gears.  (just for starters)

 Then If new to the hobby all together, you will want to buy some descent tools if you don't have any.  The cost will go up accordingly

BASIC TOOLS NEEDED

 Small needle nose pliers, MM hex key drivers, MM nut drivers, solder iron, ball link pliers, pitch guage, precision scewdriver set (not too small)

OTHER SUPPLIES YOU MAY NEED

Gorilla glue CA

Blue loctite

Red loctite rarely used but should get

Amazing Goop

One thing I failed to mention in my post I think you should also have is a good basic simulator to practice on.  It will help a lot!!  Save money too!  LOL!

Hey, has anyone tried the 'full alloy' version of the hk450? A cnc head and tail for 19 more dollars seems like a good deal to me.

I have to agree with you helimangler. I bought a simulator just to keep the thumbs nimble. I already had a heli but have alot of planes as well and I was'nt flying anything.
The sim helped keep me in a "ready state" but also let me advance what little heli skills I previously had. I warmed up on the sim about an hour before the maiden flight
on my EXI 450. I was only going to hover test it but..... Here's the vid.

Hey Gents. Not sure if this link was mentioned but this place sells G-Force Lipos cheap and they are in the US. I have ordered the 4S for my planes and they are just as good as any name brand and shipping is fast.. http://www.valuehobby.com/products.php?category_id=8 Better than ordering from China and waiting a month..
