Hey Joe, is there any chance you will have the option to build a Gustav from these plans? I am a Gustav fan as opposed to an Emil fan. Like I need another project. I am looking for a truely scale ME-109, but cannot afford the PCM. I doubt that I will ever be able to afford one. I would like to find one 1/4 scale.
Or maybe I should design one like you did with the Emil.

Later,

Nick

Yeah, I saw that website today. I didn't read where it said plans were available.
Do you know how scale this is? I am thinking of emailing Richard to see if I can get more info on the plans. Any info is appreciated.

Richards planes are very scale. the prob with the 109 is built up fuse but foam wing and tail but thats easy enough to solve or he has them at reasonable rates. he doesnt advertise the plans per se but has them as i had been chatting with him abt his 1/3 scale which will be all built up

Got my Parts mounted and little more tweeking done but everythings going great. I just updated Pics of my test fuse and tailfeathers and it is looking great. http://home.mchsi.com/~jahuntley/me109e/109fuse.html I will prob delete every other fin rib on the fin above the stab but left them in for now to see whether I needed them for strength for the fin but looks like they wont be needed. As you can see I mounted the stab crutch through some of the finribs and this made for a nice strong base for the stab. I also flattened the tops of the last couple fuse formers to site on but I will change that with the front former for it instead of flattening the entire tip I will just notch out the fuse former making it easier to frame around.

well thats the updates for this stage I now need to work on the stab braces for it. I was thinking using short pieces of LG block material in the fuse and stab and running some wire struts then framing around them with balsa and shaping. any suggestions on this would be appreciated.

Joe

Not sure on the engine yet depends what the weight will be but prob be around the 100CC range. Would love for it to be light enough for a ZDZ 80 but depends if I do a glass fuse for it etc. I build light and dont scream them around the skies I like to try and stay scale thus no need for the huge engines like a lot of guys like to use.

HEHE ok ok well the last 2 weeks I been building a fence for a friend and havent had time or been to tired to play.

I have 2 obsticles to overcome then the rest is a piece of cake.

Obsticle #1 Landing Gear: Pat Mc Curry at PCM has an excellent set of scale retracts that come from the fuse as per the full scale. I have discussed with him and Darrell abt incorporating them into the design thus people will not have to get custom retracts made but can get them from Pat. I am just waiting for some info from darrell on the mounting brackets etc so I can incorporate them into my plans. Piece of cake not to hard

Obsticle #2: A little more difficult. I am trying to figure out the design of the cowl. I do not want to mess with trying to supply glass cowls for people and am wanting to do it like Dave Platt does on some of his and that is incorporate it into the fuse design. The problem there is as those that are familiar with the 109E know is the cowl has all kinds of scoops etc so I need to figure out how to design it in.

Thats where I stand at this time. Hopefully I will have a little more time to think on the cowl and once that is done it is a matter of fleshing out the rest of the structural stuff. I am new at designing but have buiolt enough planes in my lifetime that i have a pretty good idea of where I want to go with these plans. they wont be for the newbie builder but I dont want them so hard you have to be an expert to build them. They will be along the lines so that anyone who has built a vailley or a ziroli will be able to do it in their sleep so an intermediate level build.

dunno yet jeff prob see what Darrell can whip up for me. it will be a little bit before I need to worry abt it just trying to get the thing designed first.

Joe,

My Meister-Scale 109 has a 1/4" ply brace shapped like a cross that is inset at the Fin and Stab T.E.

Maybe (2) 1/8' laminated cross braces with opposite grain would make the tail bullet proof. Gotta luv those 109's

What do you think?

Might right now its pretty srong but my main concern is the nose. once I get the nose and retracts figured out I will be building a 1/5th scale to start with all the way through to flight. I am thinking of doing something similar with the tail to zirolis stuka. mount a piece of ply in the stab and the side of the fuse to mount the struts too. it will be lightweight and strong.
