Status: offline 		3/4 oz cloth and z-poxy with Dupont primer ,,,, Full Thane paint by Nason !!! a little heavy but plenty power .. Go with heavier cloth... very easy to dent

Status: offline 		The last foam Byron plane I built, I cut the leading and trailing edges off and replaced them with balsa. I did it simply for the ding resistance.

Status: offline 		Grandad went to the hobby store and picked it up ! should have been a rear carb , but at 74 years old we still build , paint and fly as much as possible ! so really dont matter. yes they make rear carb , and the 30 DLE is a perfect match for this plane . A G-62 would be to big. Good Luck flying

Status: offline 		Okay, sorry to be away so long, but I've been kind of busy. Got all the tail group fiberglassed and installed, now on to the wings. I'll try to post a few photos tonight, even though there is not much new to see. On glassing the foam, I used the Minnwax method with the Teal colored can. Works great, and there is no smell at all. Clean up is easy, and it sands like butter. Why didn't I find this stuff before? I'm using 0.06 oz glass cloth, and I'm only adding about 1.5 oz per square yard. It is unbelievable.

Status: offline 		Right in the middle of glassing the wings, I decided that these foam wings were really pieces of crap, and so I'll be framing up a new set of wings rather than chasing my tail with trying to get these foam things to look and work as they should.

Status: offline 		That is probably a wise idea of longevity. I had the Staggerwing and everytime you looked at the wings, you had a new ding or dent. I would bet a built up set of wings will be lighter as well.

Status: offline 		I don't know about lighter, but after glassing the wings, quite a bit of the rib detail was lost. Add to that the shrouded ailerons and flaps, with the attendant tiny amount of available movement, you have a high probability of lack of control. I'm building a set using the Frise Aileron design, and that should take care of the entire issue.

Status: offline 		We moved to the Nashville area and wouldn't you know 5 days later I'm in the hospital with a massive heart attack. 4 bypasses and a defibrillator/pacemaker later I'm back on my feet (kinda-sorta) I'm through rehab, and the Doctor now will let me begin to build again. I'll post more photos.

I just happened on to this build thread on the Byron Ryan St-A . In May I purchased a Ryan which was very well used and needed much restoration. As I started I relized I would have been much better off having built a new kit. The wings were dented up, leading and trailing edges on all surfaces were very bad. Gouges in the foam everywhere. It was missing all the flap mechinisim, the cowl was a reck, both wind screens were no good. And it was missing all the fiberglass to the landing gear except the pants. It also had no flying wires, but did come with the Byron mount for a Quadra which I have installed. I happened onto Ironbay which had bought out most of Byrons stuff. I gave them a list but got no answer. Then suddenly a kit came up not far from me for 330.00 bucks. I had already started to restore the ryan I had so I decided to buy the kit anyway to get the parts I needed. To make a long story short I have restored the ryan into a YPT- 16 and I am two weeks away from completion. Plus Iron Bay just got back to me so I will eventually get the replacement parts I used in the new kit and have that complete once again. I will post some pictures here soon after I finish. I am plaining to bring the model to Rhinebeck for the Jamboree in Sept. as they allow planes up to 1939.
