About to try making my first SPAD. The one thing I can't find anywhere is, how do you guys cut the PVC gutter so well? What sort of tools do you use for this?

Any help, hints, or tips for getting smooth, precise cuts would be great.

Thanks,
Josh

I use a saw attachment for my Dremel tool.It looks like a mini skilsaw. And I have used a hacksaw and then used a sander to cleanup the edges.I am sure a bandsaw would do well also. And last, but not least, welcome to the new generation of r/c flight!

Drop saw for lengh, dremel with cuting wheel (wear a mask) or dremel with 1/8 drill as a sort of rotary knife

Who says we do it well?

I use a radial arm saw to cut to length and a jig saw to cut the various shapes. Where I need to cut an opening, I drill holes at the four corners before using the jig saw. Same thing for servo openings, then use a file to square the corners.

I use Tattoo's method for cutting brackets and horns out of the scraps: aviation snips.

For openings I use a regular snap blade knife. The kind that have razor blades that break off in sections. It takes a little work but you get nice cuts with it. For cutting off the ends use a regular miter saw.

If you have none of the above, a hacksaw will work. art43

I use a regular hack saw for most of the cuts. If the back brace gets in the way, I switch over to an end handle. A broken off blade in an end handle works great for the inside servo cutouts. Just guide the broken end of the blade against a straight piece of metal, back and forth to get it started and once you get through, saw away. For the small openings like for a switch, drill a few holes and carve out the PVC to your score lines with a good sharp #11 exacto blade. Perfect results every time. A fine tip sharpie is great to mark your layout with, and will wipe off with acetone (finger nail polish remover). Good Luck !

Use tin snips to cut out flat pieces and control horns.
Drill the corners and use a jig saw for radio access holes.
Drill a series of small holes close togeather then 'snip' through the 'walls' with some small wire cutters and clean up the edges with metalworking file.

I use a miter box to cut it to length. It leaves you with a nice square end for the fire wall. They are cheap and in the spirit of SPADs they are available in PLASTIC. Pick one up at Home Depot when you are there getting yard sticks.
