Howdy Werhop,
What would be your thoughts (as you seem set on glow) on using a ST3250 - just thinking the additional weight may help.
Regards,
Wurger

wurger : I bought this plane through my model supplier and he chatted to dave about the engine, and he is the one that advised me on the Super Tigre G20/23 23cc engine. I don't know too much about these big engines though, so I took his advice, He gives me very good ones.

F4u5 : Thanks , cannot wait for it to fly now.

The big Super Tigre engine require special fuel to run correctly. My friend, John Cole, who has used a Super Tigre 3000 for several years, cuts a gallon of Byron fuel (10% nitro 20% oil) with an equal amount of alcohol. This effectively reduces the nitro to 5% and the oil content to 10%.

This fuel mixture works extremely well. I've seen his models fly in temperatures ranging from +40F to +100F with no problems.

werhop have you considered a gaser. With high glue fuel prices running a ST3000 can become very expensive fast. a price list would be great to us give some idea how much this project would cost.

Here is a rough prices for the project , as I come from South Africa I will give the prices in ZAR and in () the $ price +-.

I started by getting only certain parts that will be necessary at the start and am planning on getting other stuff like retracts at a later stage.

As I say before, I got my items through my supplier, so if you get it from Dave directly some parts may be cheaper, but the wood etc will cost the same.

Already Purchased:
Dave Platt Short Kit + Wood + Accessories = R5000 / +-$500
includes: 1:5 scale Pilot figure (exelent quality)
Gun Kit for front guns
Weapons Race underneath plane
Scale Static Prop (3 Bladed)
Cockpit Kit
Fibreglass Coul + Gun Hood
Scale Flying Spinner

Super Tigre G2300 Engine = R2300 / +- $230

Still Needed:
Dave Platt Pneumatic Retracts = +- R4000 / This price is a lot less if i does not get shipped to south africa, dave platt 's website says = $299

All the servos and push rods/ control horns, etc - these will not cost too much for the project , servos most expensive.

One will still need glues and so of for the construction.

To add the prices up : R5000
R2300
R4000
-------------
R 11 300
-------------
This will still need the servos and pushrods, etc

This is a highly detailed and exact model, the parts is just excellent. I will be posting some pictures of the parts of the Short Kit later today, when i get the time to make them.

Please check out dave plattmodels.com">http://www. dave plattmodels.com / short kits / FW-190 to get all the prices from him directly.

Remember that the fuel recommendation above is only for the large ST's (3000 up). The 2300 you have uses regular 10% nitro and 18% oil fuel. Not the low oil blend used for the big ST's.

WerHop,

No problem on the ST info. I'll ask my friend about the distinction between the 2300 and the 3000, and if the 2300 requires the same fuel mix.

Be sure and keep this thread updated with your progress. The Platt 190A is one of the few 190's I don't have (yet). I am very interested in hearing how you like it's construction.

Here's about as much info on the 2300 you can use.
http://www.rcfaq.com/answers/engines/st2300.htm#AMC.
Ann Marie cross added this: Third, the engine MUST be fed high quality high oil (18%+, at least partially castor) fuel. It will run on FAI fuel but prefers nitro in the 5-25% range.
