How do you guys think the retracts will cope with grass ? I am thinking of buying one but fly solely off a grass field. Do the mounts look substantial ?

How about the MVVS 1.6 Gas that's the combo I was kicking around with this plane or the 80" WM P-51 with a ZDZ 40-B. I can't make up my mind as to which one to go with. I know somebody out there most have some pros-or-cons as to which one is best. Thanks Don

Thanks Don [/QUOTE] The MVVS 1.6 sounds interesting, hope someone can comment! By the way, does this plane seem somewhat overpriced, or is it just me? H9 sells the 65.5 inch span version for $255. It seems that the 77 inch version is the same construction and detail, so the only difference in cost should be due to the size. 77/65.5 gives a factor of 1.18. Now, given the fact that sheeting is not linear, but rather an area, the factor is probably slightly higher...somewhere around 1.35ish. That would put the price around $344, pretty far from $500! I realize that the math is somewhat fuzzy, but $500 compared to $255?

Got mine for the out the door price of $413 Same holds true for other items such as retract air line tubing ... $6.00 for ten feet if purchased at a LHS. I have found a source where it can be purchased in fifty foot rolls for under ten bucks. Same holds true for Tygon tubing... fifty feet for $27.00 compared to $4.70 for three feet at the LHS These people are as bad as my local Snap-On rep.

Actually, my price question was more of a comparison of what H9 wants for this ARF relative to what they want for their other ARFs such as the new 95" Cessna, etc.

Take a look at what you get for the money - size isn't the only difference. The nose is built up and strongly constructed.The tail surfaces are all airfoil shape and built up and nicely faired in. The wings are sheeted and the flaps are beautifully done.If you have ever built a model from a box of wood you know how much work this entails. The landing gear are substantial and the fibergalass work is great. All worth the $450 I paid at my LHS.

Yeah, I build from boxes of wood and understand. I haven't personally seen one of these yet, but it seems that 95" cessna is supposed to have much greater scale detail, not to mention is much larger, yet the price difference isn't that much between the two. Something just seems out of whack. Not to say that I may not get one of these....

Kenair, They are the older model 1.6's in those reports. I have the Latest & Greatest with the Red Head the Big Carb and the Black Piston (well it looks bad anyway)(Not as Bad as a Saito 180 G.N) BUT BAD. And best of all I have a O.S. 1.6 to back it up, when it doesn't work out. It is small for the power it puts out, it's about the size of a Moki 1.35. Have the Hanger-9 on order, but by the time I get around to getting it in the air I'll be in the Old Folks Home watching someone else fly it outside my window. One other thing, to think about, is this is a Warbird not a 3D plane RIGHT? I have seen the 60 size fly with an O.S. 90 Surpass and it looked neat, I was going to use either a YS 90 or Saito 100 in mine till I decided to go to the bigger plane. One more parting shot I have the Hanger-9 CAP 232 (TT-120) 73" wing (I think). Theirs no way you can compare a Mustage to the CAP. That CAP has to be drag city compared to the clean lines of a Stang even if the Stang is a little bigger. My CAP weights about the same as the Stang the Thunder Tiger 120 would pull it around like it was nothing (but not 3D stuff). Don

I hope it works out for you. I have the newer MVVS 1.6 also but have not mounted it, I may switched it over in the CAP later in the summer. I'd be interested in the rpm numbers between the TT 1.2 and the MVVS 1.6 with the same prop. Mulligan - I had to order the radial backplate mount and it will have to be shaved down on the edges about 3/4 inch but it will fit just fine. I have a J-Tec muffler (collector really) that should fit inside the cowl if I cant the engine a bit. G.

Will post pics whenever I get something done. Here are some questions for all builders: Are you going to attach the stab with just those 2 little screws or are you going to epoxy it on? What do you think about using those nylon control horns- replace? Same question on the servo arm hook ups with the 90 degree bend and nylon keeper- use something else? How about the supplied CA hinges? Different or more? The book shows JR 537s on all surfaces - enough torque? G.

capt g, I will used epoxy for the stab. Most all my hardware went into the trash. I'm using 4-40 sullivan on everything including sullivan horns and 60+ in oz servos also. My control surfaces have gp pinned hinges epoxied in place but have robart on the flaps. I just don't trust the cheesy hardware on a 13-14lb plane pushing 100mph. I'm about to give up on this damn retract tail wheel and go with the stock one. Hope to fly this thing soon. dave

However it was done by someone who didn't assemble the plane. The plane was provided as a Hangar 9/Horizon Hobby demo model. So guys, please continue to weigh in. Oriolee

Davham, That 121 tailwheel may be a bunch too light for the airplane. You may want to try a beefier one.

George - The Moki is in! It took shaving down the radial backplate mount and 1/4 spacers but the fit is not bad. Will post pics when I get the cowl and muffler fitted.
