Hi Guys. A lot of talk about landing gear in the H9 1.50 Mustang. As I mentioned in a previous thread, my idea was to stick with the stock mechanical retracts and add Robart 662 offset Robostruts. I completed the install of one wing last night and I am very pleased with the results! I was able to use the original wheel wheels and only had to modify the HP gear attachment points and cut out for the scissors bracket on the struts. Essentially, I cut off the stock strut wire and attached the robostrut. There was quite a bit of modification to the Robostrut to get it to fit. The Strut comes at 9" and needs to be cut down to 6" to fit the Mustangs original gear wells. I took the strut apart, Cut it to six inches, soldered in the steel sleeve which need to be drilled out to fit the stock strut wire (where the HP strut fits into). I also had the cut the piston and spring by 1/2 inch to get it all to fit and the spring to operate correctly. I opened up the wing at the gear attachment points and shaped a piece of 1" hardwood and slid it under the HP factory gear rails, front and back and epoxied them in. Instead of removing the factory gear rails, I supported them from undeneath and at the same time gave myself a solid base to screw the gear into. I then shaved the factory rails to allow the wheel to not only seat deeper (until the strut hits the bottom of the wheel well. I did not have to remove or cut the wheel well at all! I also shaved the front rail a bit more than the rear to allow the gear to cant forward a bit to try to eliminate the Mustangs tendency to nose over (I fly off of grass). I also purchased the Robart Gear door mounting brackets (they slide over the Robostrut) and reversed them from the normal way they are used and attached the H9 gear doors to it (drilled and tapped). With a Hitec HS-75BB retract servo, the gear opens and closes slowly. I was able to use 1 1/4 inch stainless screws to attach the gear to the wing and the result is a fairly stiff gear. The gear does not close as tight as the factory gear would have. The doors are touching the wing but not as tight as the original would have. I am okay with this. I probably could have cut into the wheel wells and got a tighter fit on the gear doors if I wanted. I still won't be flying for a few weeks cause I'm adding a lot of scale detail. I'll tell you about this in another thread. I'm working on pictures if anyone is interested. Flyboy 1950
