I just finished doing the basic setup with a Gaui 450 flybarless head and a Skookum SK-360. Now I need to wait for good weather to test it out and fine tune it.

It is kind of windy here, but it flew pretty good. It would kind of bounce around like any flybared heli would in strong wind. The cyclic isn't as fast as I am used to, but it just has basic settings in it. There are some settings for 3D which I haven't tried yet. At first the setup was hard, since I wasn't used to setting a heli up by a computer. Then when I got used to what each setting did, it was just like setting a heli up with a transmitter. It took me a good part of yesterday with trial and error to get it setup. Then it is just like a normal tail gyro when finding the right gain to use. It will rock back and forth like a tail wag if the gain is too high and it will drift if the gain isn't high enough.

What are some of the Pros and Cons to running flybarless???

pro's faster head speed,Longer flight times, looks cleaner and less to replace in a crash(assuming you dont take out the Skookum SK-360)
Con's shouldnt really be any if your running a properly setup vbar system, the cost and maybe a bit slower on control response
cheers

au_wozza covered pretty much all of it. My stock head was starting to wear out and there is less to wear out on a flybarless head. My flight times are longer. I am still testing it out, but the one full pack I had through it I could get 30 seconds more. I really like that you can fine tune it to the way you want the helicopter to fly like. A beginner can make it super stable, yet on the other end you can make it extremely fast all with the same head. You can't really do that with a flybar setup. You might be able to change the paddles, headspeeds, and swash mixes, but that is about it except for the Outrage helis. Right now I can get it to flip pretty good on 2600RPM's and don't need a high headspeed. I can get about 7min of mild 3D with a 2200mAh battery.

The only con is the price.

It would probably be very responsive without a virtual flybar. I have heard that the heli will pitch up and down in forward flight without a virtual flybar. To enjoy the flight you would probably need the SK-360, Mikado's V-bars, the Gaui virutal flybar, or the other ones I can't remember the names of.

looks awesome.... i have a Hoss X4E with the Gaui FBL head on it, all ready for an SK-360..... i just removed, and sold the GU-365. i couldnt get that thing to stop twitching. what motor/esc are you running in that thing? ive got a scorpion 2221-8 in the Hoss with a Turnigy Plush 40A ESC. i plan on running it on 4S. if i can get the Hoss all tuned and flying the way i want it, i think my Trex 500 #2 will be next on the fbl list.

now i just need a good, used SK-360 ;-)

Wow, that's pretty slick! Did you have to modify anything to get the Gaui FBL head on your Trex? I've been thinking of doing the same, but with the Gaui 3 axis gyro.

There are no modifications needed for the Gaui FBL head to fit on the T-Rex.
