Thank you very much for that. I was thinking about the same thing, finding instruments and shrinking them to print. You da Man. Here is the link to my AW P51. Its 5th scale just like the Byron.

I took some screen shots for you, but the files are to big to post, shoot me your email and Ill send them over..

Thanks for the link, Ill follow along..

I never measured my prop blades, but a 24" with a DA50 direct drive might not be so bad for the Byron..

Im hating more then anything having to have that head sticking out the side of it..

My E-mail is Fred@AllStarProTour.com

Thank you

Also, you won't be able to swing the 24 4 blade with a DA 50. Thats why I moved to the DA 85

On the way to you now Fred..

Got both manifolds temporarily mounted for mock up...I have a little room to move the right one forward a little as they were offset at the factory but it wont be dead on..I ddint really go out of my way to make it perfect..

Started modifying the front engine mount but my drill and dremel batteries need to be charged..Im going to get everything mocked up for Kelvin, and send it off to him for fabrication soon enough..

Also a shot of the backside of the manifolds..

Your doing an awsome job. I spoke with Kelvin the other day and he is making an exaust system for my AW mustang for the DA 85. Hes a good guy. Thanks for the pics bro. Very Very helpful. I will keep you updated on my progress. I kept the Byron Mustang and will build it next. I love watching your progress. You should build these for hire. You have a great eye for detail and the skills to match. Keep up the great work.

Fred

Thanks for the compliments Fred..wish I had shop though..

Your really moving along, and it looks great..let me know if you need any more specific pictures..I kind of wonder how the Byron would do with the direct drive with your engine prop setup..Mine is going to be really heavy..Im going to need a 75lb hook just to hang it from the ceiling when its finished ..

Heres a few shot of the modded front firewall, and RD install..im going to mock up the collector at this point..

I wanted to ask..How do I take the engine out of the Drive Unit?

Ive got everything unbolted however the coupling that connects the output shaft of the engine to the drive shaft is connected with some steel looking mesh..not sure how to separate the two?

Do I have to take the small pulley off in the front? Kind of hoping not to have to..

You shouldn't have to pull the front pulley. the coupler is only a piece or wire reinforced hose, kind of like hydraulic hose. and the shaft end and drive end are both knurled to give them grip so they won't slip. the hose is pretty stiff and can be kinda hard to separate from the shaft. you might have to pry the rubber and keep working it until you can get it to break loose. hope this helps, Steve

I don't know if your interested, but I was able to totally enclose my Quadra 42 inside the fuse of my byron p-51. I just did not like the look of the head sticking out of the side. It wasn't that hard to do, but will take a little more work to make cooling ducts that will direct airflow through fuse and will exit out the rear of the radiator scoop just like the full scale. ..... Steve

I will try, the plane is kind of hung from the ceiling out of the way, might take a day or 2 to get to it.

A few pics. of the quadra inside the fuse. there is plenty of room inside , even the carb will be enclosed. I still need to fiberglass the holes closed in the lower cowl and work on the ducting through the fuse but I think it will be worth it in the end. You should be able to unbolt the rear mount bolts. and rotate the engine clockwise till the head is up by the upper support tube. on mine one of the mount holes lined up at this point, so I only had to redrill the other 3. If you have any other questions I will do my best to help......Steve

Has anyone tried putting a Zenoah G-38 pickup coil on a Quadra 42? I heard that it will give you about 300 more RPM but didn't know if it was true or not. ..............Steve

Shotgun, what are your thoughts on how to exhaust your engine in that configuration.

Maddog, You could use the Byron pipe which exits to the right side of the head at about the same angle as the carb, and with an aprox. 45 deg. angle pipe on the end of it would put the exhaust out of the bottom of the fuse. I was going to try and make up a scale functional exhaust kinda like Snake is doing, in which case I would run the pipe up the other way and over the top of the head and then forward to feed the scale exhaust. If you don't have a Byron pipe it wouldn't be hard to make one up, Its' just a piece of steel tube welded to a small steel manifold plate. here's a pic of the Byron manifold

ANybody thought about converting the drive to electric? A monster 160 should put out more power than a Q42, and all of the engine associated vibrations would be gone. I have a drive system that I am seriously considering converting.

why worry about the belt drive-that motor should be absle to spin a big 4 blade pretty easily!

HEAT???? You're not kidding. I had a Mustang50 in mine with the head well exposed and it got very hot. I'm convinced with the engine enclosed that it will overheat and fail. Even if you open the inlet in front and duct the air right to the head......not sure that will do enough. Good luck with that, I seriously hope you prove me wrong. The 4 Blade Mustang was really cool to own and fly. Sometimes I wish I would of kept mine. Very unique sound and flight characteristics. That big prop was the bomb....so cool. Here's a video link to mine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=702NfHmP6-c

Good luck guys and fantastic work SnakeBT6.
Fly hard,
Scott

Gentlemen, for an internal engine configuration you will need a water jacket around the cylinder with a minature rad.
