IMO, Put the CG at 4.5” aft of the wing leading edge and NOT 4 7/8” per the manual.

I did, after rereading thru the thread, I set CG at 4-1/2...too windy to do the maiden though this weekend here in new England...I did some taxi test, lowered the position of the tail wheel to give a better angle of attack. Trying to do whatever I can to avoid nosing over, too bad Hangar 9 didn't move the gear just a little farther forward...

I raked the gear forward. I think if you fly off grass, it is a must-mod. Rake the landing gear forward by adding a 1/8” spacer or shim under the back mounting bolts of the landing gear, and remove about 1/16” material under the front mounting bolts (a Dremel works fine for this).

Also, I created 3 degrees of wing twist by putting the ailerons up by 1/16” and the flaps down by 1/8”. This will make the plan very stable, and avoid tip stalls. It works great!!

When you raked the gear forward, did you have to do any mod to the wheel opening?

Yes to that.

I usually angle the gear forward (as described by tclaridge) and it helps. Only problem is the wheel will be slightly canted in the wheelwell.

There is a slight angle to the gear doors when retracted, but it is not bad. They clear the wheel well without any mod.

Well it was a very short maiden flight. Started to roll down runway, building speed and not pulling on elevator, plane broke the ground, started to climb applied a little elevator and she just did a slow roll to the left and went nose in. I believe it tip stalled, I tried to go full right aileron, nothiong. She is a total loss. Motor and gear ok though.....maybe I will try the Top Flight ARF.....

R/C Foolish,
Sorry to hear about your maiden flight!! That was the same way my Blue Nose went in. As for the Top Flite P-51 ARF, you are going to love it I have one and I never look back at the Blue Nose. In fact I just came in from flying my Top Flite P-51 with a Thunder Tiger 1.30FS in the nose. I had a Magnum 1.20FS in her, but the engine gave out, so I pickup the Thunder Tiger from Tower Hobbies. I like this new setup!! Flies like a dream!!
Try the Top Flite ARF and see what you think!!
Again, sorry about your maiden flight!!!

How much ground speed do you obtain before rotating the nose to lift off?

Is it possible you didn't have enough airspeed and as you climbed it tip stalled and rolled over?

Sorry to hear about your maiden flight, that bites!

sorry to hear about ur nose in.  But i too lost mine on the maiden flight as well.  But mine pancaked in.  Its repairable.  The wings need rebuilt a little and a new motor mount fire wall.   I had the club pro fly it first to get it up and trimmed out.  It was flying fine and was flying good.  But he was coming around at 1/2 throttle and it just quit.  He tried to bring it in as best he could but bad deal and it pushed the gear threw the wings.  The gear mounts are very strong just not the rest of the rib.  Im rebuilding it stronger.  And going for another test flight again after it is rebuilt.  Im getting close.  I'm going to get with a building guy and have him help me put everything back together after i have all the pieces  cut.

But overall he said the plane was flying well and smooth

R/C Foolish, I wish it went better for you. Sorry. I would be interested to know if it was a full throttle TO, and if so, what motor? Also, did you try the wing twist trick? Just trying to figure out why this bird is having so many problems.
I hope your next P-51 is a great success.
