I finally had time to put togather the video capture of the first (and last) flight
The flying part is not great due to the camera auto focus struggling and the sun location. It does show how sensitive the taxi is (will tip on the prop on the smallest obsticle) and the great start to the flight.

Hey Eran,..

Thanks for posting the video. It's a shame about your bird,...she looked real good in the air ! ! On another note. I said I was going to wait on your struts before I took her up again, but I couldn't hold my self. So I took her up for her second flight. Took the Strut covers off to see if the bad strut I told you about was holding up ok,..it looked good throughout the landing. So here is the video I posted on youtube P51. This bird flies real nice. Landing was not my best for sure cause of high cross winds, but over all she flew great. Thanks again Eran for the struts you sent me. As soon as I get them I will put them on. Enjoy guys ! !

Thanks Je22b,

Because of problems with this kit, it almost took me a year to get it in the air. So it was sweet to see it fly. As for your Top Flight,...I know it is a great kit and airplane. Enjoy it as well. Thanks for watching the video.

Flyboy0608 - Every landing without damage is a good landing
Great movie. I am amazed that you are flying so close to a major road. The airfield looks very nice.
We are lucky where I am flying (WAMASC airfield WA Australia) that we have 3 runways triangle setup allowing us to change when cross wind is too strong (See image)

If sailfish can't run a Saito ......any Saito ,then he doesn't know much about engines. Saitos are so easy to start , break-in , and fly , hell I know some people don't even bother to break-in they just fly them, they are that reliable. Sail fish needs a little instruction. The 125 is exceptional ...........aske anyone who is an expierienced RC flyer , they all say the same ...............only beginners that don't know enough will have any problems ,,,,and that would be with any engine........................ ZDS

Hey D*P S**T, Why dont you re read the thead. I am referring to the FG-20 gas engine. Not a nitro you moron. Any brain dead person can run a nitro satio. Even more so if you like low powered engines. I fly only YS. Try and tune one of them and also. Quit voting for Dems.

Awesome Flyboy! Looking really good there and well done on your flights. Nothing wrong with that landing! I am still busy correcting all the issues in this kit but almost there. Cant wait to get her up as the build has been full of problems (as we all know!) Well done again!

Great video and great landings. I have the blue nose with a YS 1.10 and it flies great also. I do like your electric setup. Would you please share a picture of the battery's installed in the plane with the hatch off? And do you fly with only the magnets holding the hatch on? And last off what CG and weight is your plane. Thanks!

Thank You for your comments.

CG is factory recommended, maybe on the aft side?  I can't remember, I do move the batteries up all the way.
Throws are factory recommended, I have noticed with full flaps it seems to lack up elevator.  Causing some hard landings.
Landing gear bays are reinforced with fiber glass,  I Have had the axles bend up on a hard landing, jamming the gear into the struct, and causing the plane to nose over. This happened more than once.
I have the tail wheel reinforced with a home made resin block.
RX, Servos, Gear on separate Battery.  I have had it flying almost a year now,  I fly two 3 minute flights on each set of batteries. RX battery will fly better than 12 minutes.  And I put the gear up and down as much as I want.
Flaps two position, with scale speed.
I used black chaulk for weathering and then locked it in with flat clear.

I glued foam to give me snug battery fit.  I had to cut away some of the bulkhead to accommodate the battery.  I used 10mm bullets instead of deans plugs etc.

Thanks for all the great info. I am going to build another electric just as yours. I built mine and used carbon fiber rods and fiber glass in the wheel wells and extra plywood and ran out of fuel once and landed in the grass very hard. Bent the crap out of the gear but did not hurt the wing or airframe in anyway. I also modified the tail wheel and it works perfect. I posted my mods way back when in this thead. Thanks again!

BTW, Wing mod post is 154/155/156
Tail whell mod post is 398

Great video. I had actually seen your video a long time ago on youtube when I was building my blue nose. I too had to re-enforce the landing gear bay with fiberglass and re-enforce the tail wheel section because of the crappy construction. I noticed that you said you bent the gear. By this I think you mean the STRUTS. Did you fix them or did you order struts from another company. I was fortunate enough that another Blue nose flyer on RCuniverse sent me his struts of his crashed plane, so i am good for now. But i would love to have a spare. I have been looking for STRUTS for this plane but HANGER 9 doesn't have them. Have you found a company that sells similar struts for this plane, or did you just fix them? Thanks ! !

I bent the Axles.  I have taken them off and bent them back straight twice.  The struts have worked fine, I think the metal in the axle maybe too soft?  In fact not only did I bend the axles, but I have knocked the tires off the wheels.  I am now in the process of gluing the tires to the wheels while I have the wheels off for axle work.  It takes a lot of elevator up during the flare with full flaps.  I have miss judged my timing during the flare and hit harder than the wheels and axles  could take.  I got lucky, when my Son had his camera rolling, not all my landings are that good LOL.

Over all I like this airplane.  It's the best looking bird at the field I fly at.  Everyone stops to watch it take off.

Has anyone had any experience using the Evo 26 in the blue nose? I know H9 recommends the Saito FG20 but I'm not hearing good things about its performance.

Earhole51,

FG 20 is a good mechanical engine, some people had some issues with ignition and hard to adjust the needle. But if you adjust it...it is darn good.
Second option you may want to consider is a Saito FA125 and convert it to gas. You can use a Walbro 456-1 or Zama C1Q-P8. I did several conversions with those on FG20, FA125, FA 180, And runs real good no trouble at all. Once you set it on the stad will perform the same way on the air.
For FG20/FA125 I have all necessary hardware , Carb, addaptor plate, mounting braket, pickup sensor and C&H Ignitions, I think I have like 40 sets.

also other videos on youtube with Walbro and FA180, for the FA125  I did not post it yet.

Hope it helps.
Adrian

Hi all,
I'm in the UK. I love the Bluenose, it flies nice and heavy, eats up the sky and has great presence. I had all the problems putting it together and unfortunately the last landing tore out the port retract (just hit the rough). From the first I thought the port wing looked poorly made compared to the starboard. Anyway, I'm tempted to get the TF 60arf but was wondering if any one had a wing set for the Bluenose that was available to buy? Cheers
Tim

Hi i7x58, how much would cost this conversion for the SAITO FA 125 and how can I contact you?

The SAITO FG-20 is a great match for the Blue Nose, performance is not an issue. The only issue is the oil spill the engine creates in the cowl. As to tuning, it was the easiest engine to tune I have ever owned (and I did owned quite a few in the 24 years I am flying RC), and by far the easiest Petrol engine to tune I ever handled. I actually liked the engine so much that I intend to fix it after my massive crash (the only damage to the "engine" was slightly bent shaft which was straightened, but the ignition unit was destroyed + spark plug broken + some carburettor damage). The cost of parts to repair it are higher than buying brand new 26cc engine from cheap Chinees manufacturing, just to show how impressed I was with it...

I am using the MVVS 40 SP IFS on my Great Planes SU-31 which is a different branding of the Evolution engines. The engine build quality and operation are fantastic, so, from quality point of view I am sure you cannot go wrong with the Evolution 26. I have no idea what sort of power the 26 has, but keep in mind that these engines are usually used with tuned mufflers when you see the rated power performance, which will not fit nicely on the P-51 (see accessories for available mufflers here http://www.evolutionengines.com/Products/RelatedParts.aspx?ProdId=EVOE26GX&Category=Optional%20Accessories)

Cheers,
Eran

erans,

Thanks for the info. Can you elaborate on the "oil spill" in the cowl? Doesn't sound good.
