a couple of questions that have been answered differet ways:

1. Can you LEGALLY change tx crystals on 27mhz?

2. Do 2 different brand recievers work together if they are on the same frequency?

I have an AM 27Mhz Radio and to try to answer your question Yes you can. BUT What do you mean by legally??? F.C.C. Legal? Or R/C legal? Either way Yes you can.

On second question. TX's and Recievers can be mix matched to an extent. Mainly they are compatible as long as they are the Same Waveform AM / FM and if they are the Same SHIFT. Positive or negative shift.

thats what I thouht about the tx an rx. they have to be the same shift either positive or negative. Now about the crystals. You are 100% sure that its FCC legal to change crystals on 27mhz?

If you are flying planes, most clubs that are AMA (most are) have rules saying you cannot change the transmitter frequency. You can change the rcvr crystal but not the transmitter. The transmitter must be sent out to an authorized service center to have it changed...According to the rules.

I have seen people do it, but if you have an accident and are found to have changed the crystal in the transmitter there might be problems.
All that being in general to air frequencies and flying model ariplanes.

As for land frequencies I see it done all the time at the track, just about everybody changes crystals in the rcvr and transmitter while racing. Its a known to have extra crystal sets when you come out to race. I have never heard of any rule with ROAR althoug it may exist with them or another agency. I just know everyone changes including myself.

As for 27MHZ in particular I have seen em change them on the track too. Less frequencies in that band I think but they change those in and out just as much if not more.

27 AM are all the same no matter which brand. Changing, done all the time. Have full set of 27 AM crystals from way back as well as many 75AM. Legal is another question and basically the answer is NO.
