I just picked up a Bob Godfrey Precision Built 30% Ultimate. Only had a few fights on it. Been sitting around for 15 or more years. Just check out the wheels This one was probably built somewhere around 1988 to 1990. I t was set up with a Merle Hyde soft mount running a Precision Eagle 4.2 twin plug glow engine. The problem is that the cabanes were lost somewhere duing the years. Does anyone have real size drawings of them that they could send? This one had the flying wires that were needed for wing support. I believe that they connected to the cabanes as well.
Thanks,
Stuart

Your Cabanes are right there, in each pic. Are you trying to say that your I-struts are missing. You don't want Godfrey to send you cabanes when you really need I-struts.

Hope this helps, Dan Baker

Maybe I have the terms wrong. The supports between the outboard wings are called I struts?
Thanks for the help.
PM on its way.
Stuart

The way my I-struts are made it requires a very long 8/32 rod that came with the kit along with a screwdriver flat blade head that had to be soldered on there do you have those long bolts/rods?

Mine must be different. I have plywood tabs extending from each wing. Hopefully shows up in the pictures.

Easy to make with the tabbed connections, even without plans or drawings.

Support the wings and brace them so that all the end, front, and rear separations are equal, or with the leading edge of the wing 1-1/16" lower than the trailing edge.

Use two pieces of paper to cut the shape of the top and bottom wing airfoils. Mark the tab locations on the paper.

Use a length of 1-1/8" ply to attach the paper templates to and adjust the positioning of the paper to make good contact with the wings. That will determine the length and shape of the struts. Make sure they are both equal length. determine if you want the tabs to surface mohnt on the strust or to inset inside the strut. Surface mount is the easiest, with strength being close to the same either way.

Trace the shape onto two pieces of 1/18" ply. Cut and shape. Laminate a layer of 1/8" balsa to both sides of each strut. Make sure the marked areas for the tabs are not covered up. Sand to shape, then paint or cover. Trial fit at various steps to assure that the wing positioning stays true.

Never lie, and never minimize or gloss. Tell it like it is and let the pieces fall where they may. The truth always wins.

David,
I have been wanting to build a large Ultimate. Are the Godfrey Ultimate plans still available? I would like to build a 30% version. I owned a Goldberg 30% and experienced catastophic wing failure in flight. Any guidance would be helpful.
John
