So I'm looking at getting a cheap 4wd buggy and so far these two fit my price range. However the Brama is $40 more then the E XB10 so was wondering if anybody had one or both and could let me know what they think about theirs. I will be putting a mild sidewinder package in so I would like to know if they can handle the power of brushless.

Mega E XB10

Brama 10B

I like the look and price of the XB10 more but I think HPI is a better company so is it worth the $40 extra for the Brama.

If you picked other please explain why or give links

Status: offline 		buy the HPI. More parts support and a much better buggy. That is a nice buggy for any price. Unless you have better part support for the Himoto, go for the HPI

+1 I have to agree with farmerearl about the Barma and parts support...The Barma is built off of the E10 platform and is shared with other cars from HPI. This will make getting parts easier, the rule of thumb I learned is buy what your LHS stocks!

Status: offline 		Plus, LHSs dont carry HSP (i.e. himoto) parts. Those cheap knockoffs are very bad quality and gives the beginner a false sense of cheaper is for beginners, and the advanced modelers only get the more expesnsive stuff.

Chris you being in LQ know we only have one LHS and he does not carry HPI or Himoto so it would be the net for parts anyway. I heard the Brama only goes about 13mph. Would the XB10 be about the same? The reason I ask is that makes me nervous about running a brushless motor. How about the tamiya Dark Impact? could that handle brushless?

Status: offline 		I have The HPI Brama. Worst purchase I have ever made. It is not as easy to find parts for as you think. the chassis is the same, but all of the bulkhead/gearboxes are different from the E10. It is virtually impossible to get parts for. Mine has been parked for over a month and a half due to lack of parts availability. I wish I had someone to warn me! DO NOT BUY THIS CAR! Plus way to much of the draive train is plastic, and can not handle added powewr, it comes with a 35T motor for a very good reason.

Status: offline 		other, tamiya df 02, entry level buggy, around $100 alot of places, the extra $50-80 could be spent on hop ups, which don't much exist for the the brama yet, the df 02 is 10 mm longer, can be geared lower for lower turn motors and or bigger tires

Status: offline 		I don't have either but I'm actually thinking about getting the Himoto XB10 or MT10. From what I've seen on other threads these are new models that are much improved over previous Himoto, Redcat and Exceed models. The center drive shaft has been beefed up as well as the dogbones to the wheels. The differentials are supposed to be all metal gears. They've also added a cover to the pinion/spur gear whereas if you look at pictures of the older models they were exposed. The XB10 and MT10 are supposed to be ready for brushless setups without major modification. They offer a steel spur gear if you find you need it.

There are several threads about these on here with positive response so far. I believe the vehicles were released here in January so they are relatively new. From what I've read, Himoto Racing USA is great to work with. Eddie the owner has responded to my emails within minutes or hours in most cases. Finally, you can view videos of both Himoto vehicles on Youtube. Here are some that I've found...







I have an E-Maxx that I love but I'm considering selling it to get one of these with the brushless setup that they offer to use at the new track we are building locally. It's a tough call as I love the E-Maxx. Maybe I can find some other stuff to sell instead! I hope you find something you like and enjoy running. Have fun and God bless!

Status: offline 		Ive heard numerous complains about the Brama's drivetrain issues too. Seems just like the XXX-4, take a touring car and make it into a 4wd buggy- and neither are durable.

Quest4speed, ya I dont even bother with Uncle Dons in Palm Desert. They bascially only carry Traxxas and some Losi and AE RTRs, and only stock Traxxas parts. Also try Ground Control in Yucca Valley, and Dynamic in Hemet.

The XB10 is a better buggy than the brama hands down.


I laugh everytime I hear someone say there is better local support for hpi,tamiya,kyosho or many others simply because they have the name brand.  If by better local support you mean you can walk into a hobby shop and have them order a part and wait 3 days for it to come in then I guess they do have better local support.  I can order a himoto part from my house and have it that fast.

Simply put unless you have a traxxas (no 4x4 buggy) you are proably not going to get 100% local support.

Status: offline 		just to confirm a big question with the himoto XB-10, they come stock with plastic diff gears, but the diffs use the standard 1/8 scale type design and even with brushless, hold up pretty well. if you decide to run these things on 3s lipo though, there are metal replacement diff gears that i've heard are near bulletproof. as best of all, the metal diff gears are dirt cheap and parts are easy to get online from himotoracingusa.com. the older models himoto makes are pretty low quality and aren't meant for brushless. i got a emxt-1 and regretted it, but their newer rc's are MUCH better. the plastics are more durable, the driveline is more durable, the tires and wheels are better, etc.

also, the himoto buggy is really light, so you can get by with less motor without paying the consequences. in a traxxas vehicle, (bandit, rustler, stampede) an EZrun finned motor would burn up, but in the himoto buggy or truck, it will do just fine as long as you don't gear it too high.

XB-10 all the way!

Ditto. For both 2WD and 4WD, Tamiya's got a good variety of buggies.

Status: offline 		I don't know much about the himoto but I do know that i've had to fix the same 10B for a local kid several times this past summer. All silly problems. Stripped drive cups, dog bones, broken suspension arms etc. I'm not going to tell you to buy the Himoto but I will suggest you don't buy the 10B.

If you're set on a 4wD buggy go over to Tamiya and look at the DF-03 chassis cars. They're awesome and reasonably priced.

Status: online 		The Brama 10b's plastic drive cups and center shaft I find to be a stupid choice by HPI. I was actually shocked when I got the brama that HPI did that. And its stock motor is slow as hell and its hard to gear for lower turn motors. Only way I would recommend a Brama is if a person wants a slow and cheap buggy that almost needs to remain stock seeing outside of a center drive shaft and ball bearing set I've yet to find anything to hop one up.

Status: offline 		One other thing I forgot to mention. HPI does make a buggy called the CYber 10B. I have not seen one yet but i've heard a lot of good comments floating around. From what I understand it's based on the HB racer. Might wanna check that out.
