Two weeks ago I picked up a 1/192 scale Sterling USS Missouri at an auction. It was built in in 1955 by a man that served on the ship. I mainly bought it to go on display in my new house, but I found my self wanting to see how it sat in the water. So I took it down to the C&O canal and dipped it in. I then found myself wanting to see how it looked moving in the water. So I put a battery in it and bought a new radio setup for it. All four propellers turned and the rudder worked (the latter is also tied in with the front turret which is cool).

I was afraid that it would be way faster and more nimble than scale, but when I finally tried it out it was perfect. With all ballast needed to get it down to the waterline it is quite heavy so it even takes a realistic distance to stop. On ething is clear and that is that the old motor is way noisey. Are newer motors quieter? Also, how much is this thing worth?

Modern motors are generally quieter, but if you have just one motor I assume a gearbox to drive the shafts, again assuming more than one prop. Gearboxes tend to be noisy.
The only surprise is that the radio works with a motor that age - back then radio interference was not a priority when designing motors.
Whats it worth? That depends totally on what somebody else who wants it is prepared to pay, and that is likely a lot less than you would be willing to part company with it for.

You should be able to easily put in 4 cheap brush motors & run them all off the same ESC.

Here is another. It was a windy day so there were some good waves. Just like the real thing it went through the waves like a rock.

here are 2 pics of my Missouri and soon to be NJ showing the internal layout. the NJ has 4 385 motors on 2 escs and hasn't been run yet, It came from a flea market for $25. The Missouri has 2 385 motors and performs very well with seperate escs.It has been around for 30+ years.

Your Missourii is looking good I have 5 of them on 1 is already built with 4 screws turning. The original kit as you know had only 1 screw with 2 dummy screws. The rest are in the box I got all 5 of them in 1961 for $40.00 back then. I purchased these when I was stationed in Subic Bay Phillipines My Dad was a Battleship sailor was anchored in Pearl harbor durring the attack oboard the US.S. WEST VIRGINIA Later in the war he was on the Missourii so he influenced me in getting these. I,m second generation Navy retired of 30 years service to our country A great classic indeed you done a swell job she looks underway ships colors to the battle of Vietnam. Very well done.

for all you Iowa class fans, here is a website from another forum with a free pdf set of plans for the NJ in 1984. I found it easiest to display on my computer and blow them up on the screen for dimensions instead of printing them out. Lots of other good info on this site http://www.hnsa.org/doc/index.htm#other
