A friend of mine just bought a new Saito 180 at our LHS. The ID mark on the engine beam is "B" or maybe it is an "8".
Can anyone tell me what that means?
Thanks
Ron

That is the version of the motor.
First there was the "A" motor. To much compression for usa.
Then the "AA" motor. Put a shim to lower compression.
Then the "B" motor. Recast to take the shim out.
This is what I've been told.
Hope it helps.

I figured it was something like that. So I guess that means the B is the current production model.

Nope, the current production model is the "C" version with the longer crankshaft that allows you to mount an APC prop and spinner without special adaptors.

Yup.

I have a Saito 1.50 S marked "C", no problems with thick APC props.

It is stamped right in the side of one of the engine mounting lugs.
