Okay,

I have ordered AFPD with commander control and I will also try it with the e-sky transmitter and cable.  I will report back on the success or lack there of with e-sky simulator cable.

Wish I had seen this thread before I purchased the MAC usb interface version. Now I'm dead in the water until Tower gets the JR cable in stock.
They really need to change the box where is says "contents . usb interface cable for all transmitter types"

Does the usb game commander IKAZ1051 work with the mac?
Tower does have that in stock.

Jim

Jim, I would personally recommend that you use your own programmable radio as you can use all the useful features like dual rates, idle up/down, program mixes, etc. You could get the JR/Spektrum adapter cable from FXAeromodels (31036 or AFP2)

I downloaded the latest patch for OSX and had the same error as the person  just a few messages previous.  it gives me an error message and asks if I want to try to reopen it.  Does the file have to be inside the AFPD folder for it to work?  Rajul, you mentioned that you needed the TMlog file is that the file that gets displayed when the error appears?  Do you want me to send that to you as an email attachment?

Oh, by the way I did finally get AFPD and it seems to working well.  I was able to even add new models.  Love all the scenes that you can load up.  I am surprised that some of the base models aren't of more popular electric helis (e.g. TREX 450, 600, Belt CP V2, Blade, etc.).

What would be the closest model to the Belt CP V2?  Is there a model I could download somewhere, I couldn't see it any of the sites that had free AFPD models.

Thanks

Hi mbsteed, the download and installation instructions for OSX patch 1.11.7.31 can be found here http://www.aerofly.com/afpd/downloads.html Simply unzip (double click) on the downloaded file and copy the extracted file to your AeroFly Professional Deluxe main directory.

I reread the entire thread and discovered the problem - it was answered else where - the file is already unzipped - the Mac automatically unzips it.  ...so people are going crazy trying to unzip a file that is already unzipped.

However when I drop the new Aerofly patch file into the AFPD folder it replaced the old application but then doesn't work.  It doesn't even load.  I note the file is only 2 MB.  That doesn't seem right.  I shouldn't have messed with things it was working fine.

Any thoughts?

Hey, rajul! Having big-time fun w/ AFPD and have even downloaded some new airplanes. I can get most of the .zip airplanes to work, but one that I REALLY want to make work is an .exe file located at http://ipacs-sim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=106

I unzipped it w/ Stuffit Expander ver. 14.0.1, Intel Build 116, got rid of the uppercase letters and the "_" characters and dragged the folder into the Airplanes folder as I have with the unzipped .zip files but cannot get the Ultimate Biplane to appear in the airplane choices in AFPD. I tried a few other .exe airplanes on the IPAC site with the same negative results. The necessary files seem to be in the Ultimate Biplane's folder. Any suggestions?

Okay I reinstalled the app to get the old version back and things are working fine again.  If I try the upgrade again, I will be more careful and make a backup before replacing the original.

I also got the cable for Esky transmitter but it doesn't work in AFPD, the program doesn't seem to recognize it.  However, the weird thing is that if I run the RC Helicopter sim app, that application does recognize it and it works fine.  You would think the more expensive application would be more flexible about this sort of thing than the cheaper app.

Anyway I am still okay because I have the USB Game Commander (fake transmitter) and that seems to work okay.

I sure hope us Mac users can download Aerofly 5. Some on those new planes look very cool. Love to try out the seaplanes. So far it looks like it will only be for Windows. Does anyone have any information about the new update Aerofly 5 coming out in March? Please let us know if you have any information.

I just tried the .31 upgrade again and this time it worked.  Before I kept getting errors.  I don't know what I did differently but I was more careful and didn't delete the original but just moved it to the desktop and put the new one inside the AFPD folder and it worked.  Go figure.

Hello there

I found this forum via Google from the UK and as you all seem so nice, I was hoping you could help! First - apologies for using what are probably all the wrong words/terms here; I hope you'll excuse me.

My dad has been a long time model plane hobbyist (he's 65) and I am working with him to upgrade to a new computer and fast internet connection.

I'm a mac girl through and through and as Dad's last computer is a PC which he's not used for years - as the overbearing anti-virus/firewall software drove him up the wall - I thought that moving to a mac, in the pleasant land of the virus/firewall free, might be a good option, particularly as macs are intuitive to use for what's effectively a beginner.

The only reason Dad wants a computer, however, is to run Aerofly and go on the internet, so - and whilst this may be a back to front question, I shall ask anyway: if you could chose an operating system to run this software on, what would it be, PC or mac? Cost isn't an issue. I am thinking of suggesting a 15" Macbook Pro, as it seems that should be fine to run the Aerofly Professional Platinum edition for Mac.

Also, if I then decide to go ahead with a Mac (I shall be in touch with Sussex Model Centre in the UK to get the software), what are the questions that I need to ask my dad about what transmitter/radio he has so I know when we get it, it will work via the USB?

All thoughts and suggestions gratefully received (I currently feel stuck between a very knowledgeable modelmaker Dad who doesn't know anything about computers, and me, with a bit of Mac knowledge but worried that I will recommend something that won't work!)

thank you very much
Anne

Hi Anne, welcome to RCU! I have to say that you're the daughter that every father could ever wish for! AFPD works equally well in Windows and Mac OS X, so if your preference is for the Mac, go for it. You can find the computer and graphics card requirements here http://www.aerofly.com/afpd/requirements.html I would suggest that you invest in a better graphics card, especially if you're going to get Addons 3 and above. Let me know what type (brand and model) of transmitter that your dad plans to use with AFPD. I would suggest a programmable radio so that you could use all the programmable functions and mixes with AFPD. That would enhance the flying experience tremendously.

Hi Anne, I am a die hard Mac user. I have been waiting for years for a good Flight Sim program to run on my Mac. I bought AeroFly Professional Deluxe for Mac. I am running OSX 10.6.2 on my Imac 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB of ram, and ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card. Aero Fly runs and works great in the native Mac system. I am using my own transmitter a JR.7202. I am very happy with my computer and Aero fly both work well. I think your choice of the Mac Pro 15" laptop would be a good choice except for one thing. Your dad is 65 and at that age our eyes start to change. I know. I think the 15" screen is a little to small. I have a 20" and I wish it were a 24" other than that I think most of the new Macs have sufficient graphic cards to run Aero Fly Pro. Hope this helps.

Hi Anne, riverking has a good point on the screen size. Probably a desktop would be better unless you absolutely need the mobility. The ergonomics aspects of having a monitor at eye level will also help reduce strain in the neck and spine. Ask me how I know......

Hi

Thanks chaps! Great advice, much appreciated. Those larger mac desktop screens are gorgeous of course, much clearer, and dad did have a bit of trouble with my 13" macbook when we looked online together.

I shall investigate the bigger screens and see what he thinks.....

Kindest regards and thanks very much again (I may be back again!)
Anne

What type of video card are you using and have you installed the latest driver for it? Did you install the latest patch for AFPD Mac OSX?

Your on-board graphics is not compatible with AFPD. Please check the recommended graphics card requirements here http://www.aerofly.com/afpd/requirements.html

Hi Mike, will the USB Pro version of Aerofly work with Hitec's Aurora 9 radio?

Also is the main difference between the Platinum and Pro version the game transmitter in the Platinum? Can you still use a programmable transmitter with the Platinum Aerofly system?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, it looks like the A9 is using Hitec standard DIN6 connector for the trainer port and it works with AFPD http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14150638&postcount=284 but you will need to get the 31047 adapter cable http://www.fxaeromodels.com/product_info.php?cPath=141&products_id=4194

The Platinum version basically contains all the Addons (1 to 5) and if you're using your own programmable radio, get the usb interface version http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXUS3&P=7

Hi Mike, I just realized that your link to Tower Hobbies was for the Windows version, and I want to run Aerofly on my MacBook. Is there an equivalent version for Mac. Thanks,
Jim
