Status: offline 		Sounds like its been a real love / hate affair!!!

I spent the last few weeks removing the Turnigy 52cc and installing a Zenoah G62. Power increase is unbelievable, but its meant a little more cowl cutting as the front of the BCM muffler pokes out the bottom / front of the cowl. Not too noticeable, but annoying all the same when the Turnigy was fully enclosed (but power was marginal....).

Not flown her this year due to ****e weather and all manner of other distractions, but I did take her up the field this Sunday for a bit of taxi testing and full power tests on take off roll. Acceleration off the line is mental compared with the Turnigy, so I won't need WOT to keep the take off scale looking. BTW, I wasn't looking for prop hanging power, its just that the Turnigy really didn't give it enough power for 'safe' flight. It even needed near full throttle to maintain a level turn. Needs a whole lot more running in, but I wasn't going to put the model at risk with an engine only just man enough to haul it round! The 52cc should have enough power but maybe I just got a Friday afternoon motor???

I will measure my flap and elevator travel for you. No point giving you the TX values as it will be completely different on your set up. Not just because you are on Futaba, but it will also depend on servo type, how much flap travel you have programmed, length of servo arms and position of push rods on the horns!

Status: offline 		My ASM Cessna has a used G-62 magneto ignition engine, I managed to hide the whole thing with the large can muffler inside the cowl, but added a model car air filter to muffle the intake noise. Sounds really quiet with silicone muffler tips added.

Status: offline 		 It's been a while getting to this stage.  

It'll be flown on fpv when i can find a good clear windscreen, the part supplied is poor quality and I don't know if ASM/Ripmax here in the UK will help source a better one (waiting for their emailed response).   Z62, floats and possibly retracts to make it amphibious.   5" main wheels to replace the tiny wheels supplied with the kit.   Probably engine runs this weekend.

There's a few of these in the UK.   I'm also on sbtwentyfour@googlemail.com.

I had originally thought that I might use FPV with this - even for 'virtual passengers'! But when I looked into it, the system uses 2.4 MHz and this is what I fly on. FPV retailer suggested I invest in a 35MHZ radio!

I presume you fly on 35 MHz do you? I would be interested in your set up...

Got 2.4 and 5.8 fpv and 35 and yes, the idea of a virtual passenger (and more!) is a reality.   I'll do it soon and things are scheduled for the last 2 weeks of September if the weather's ok.

Fingers crossed.

Tell me what your windscreen's like.   Is it clear?   Mine's far from clear and the camera would focus on the imperfections and not see out.   Just wondered if I'm the only one with a duffer.   Emailed Ripmax and awaiting their reaponse to my question about having a decent one made.

The original idea was to fly by fpv from the back seat of a chase car so range isn't a problem.   Had struggled a bit with knowing what fuel I'd left but the camera sees exactly what's in the tank

I presume that I am right that one cannot use a 2.4 FPV with 2.4 TX/RX? I was told that 5.4 does not have the range - what has been your experience?

Yep you're right, you can't fly 2.4 and fpv on it at the same time.

Status: offline 		I don't know anything about FPV, but why can't you use 2.4 FPV with 2.4 flight control set up? If the FPV has its own transmitter / receiver then it wouldn't interfere with the normal control set up would it? Am i being thick?? Like the idea of passenger view!!

I added scale-looking cowl flap openings to the bottom of the cowl. There is also an extra opening behind the air filter cutout for access to the choke lever. Engine temps seem fine, but haven't measured.

Status: offline 		Hi Guys,glad to see this thread is still going,had about ten flights with mine now,crrc55 twin pulls it around with no trouble,the only cooling holes i have is where the 2 exhaust pipes come out underneath and i have also cut out to vents in the side of the cowl and then covered them with alu mesh ,i got some landing lights from Aeromodel lighting which i can recomend,really bright even on a sunny day,im just waiting for some decent weather now to get it back in the air.

Status: offline 		Hi Stewb,Paul's workshop is near my house,havn't been to see it yet though.Profmb we fly in a public park which we have a strip done and it is has flags at each corner,lots of run off room if you get it wrong,down side is you have to be carefull of the general public but they do tend to keep away from the flying area.

Status: offline 		If you're near Paul's and your park is good I'll assume Paul knows about it.   A couple of weeks ago he was saying how difficult it is to find somewhere to fly from in your part of the world and that's why he has to travel.   Suggested he come over here cos there's quite a lot of land to fly off.

Hi Ian

The big 182 looks fabulous against that immaculate green field you have! Did you sort out the nose leg?

Is the 'Aeromodel lighting' from Brain Cube? Would it be possible to let us have the exact spec / parts list you used? I have looked into it so many times, but there are so many options I never bit the bullet and ordered anything!

Very nice looking 182!! This is Joe (a.k.a. Capt Micom) over in Arizona in the US. It is good to see the thread is still going. As some of you may know I lost my big 182 a year ago to another flyer that offered me a bunch-O-money for her. Anyway I am now building yet another one. I will be putting one of our “NEW” RCGF 60cc twins in it. We just got back from the flying field where I was testing the engine in an 18 pound (over 8 kg) Raven. This engine is turning a Xoar 24x10 prop at 7000 rpm on the ground and it will take the test plane vertical at less than 30% throttle. This engine is making a ridicules amount of power. I am going to take my time on this one because I want to change the paint scheme and a couple of other things that I did not like on the last one.
I will keep you all posted as it starts to come alone. Take Care & Keep’em Flying…..

Status: offline 		I used the Braincube system. The best thing is to give (I think his name is Oliver) a call -very helpfull. In addition to what he will supply you will need:

1. Loads of twin cable wiring to get for the wing tip lights and fin etc. (I got this from Pegasus Models on a reel)
2. Futaba/ JR plug kit and crimps
3. 4.8v Nicad pack

Essentiially the controller which is about 100mm long/ 10mm thick/ 30mm wide plugs into the RX. You control the on/ off switching of the landing lights via switch on thr RX (I have done this via Landing Condition on my RX). You can config the way the lights work from the controller. The Braincube landing lights are really neat and fit directly into the recess in the cowl. For me the biggest pain was getting all the cabling in. I probably made work for my self by routing a hard balsa strip to create a hidden channel up the LE of the fin and then passing the cable up this. I dug out the top of the fin to fit the Braincube LED light and its little mounting board.

Because the white on the fin did not match the white abs shroud that supports the fin I covered it in Solaryx and sprayed it with some white car spray. In this way I covered up all of the mods to the fin.
