I love those old WW1 fighters but I have never seen a model of a Spad. How come??

Their out there, freind had one! They fly great but are impossible to land without standing it on it's nose. We tried everything but could never get it to stop tipping forward, tried grass, pavement, bumping throttle once wheels touch, shifted cg....Never had a landing that didnt end up on it's nose. Think it was a proctor kit. Great in the air but terrible on the ground!

The kit you are referring to is a Peter Barth kit that was brought in from Germany by Proctor. I believe they had a kit and an ARF version available.

Very thin airfoil, unless you fake it. Very short nose moment makes balancing differcult, and very close spaced landing gear makes it a bear on the ground.

Beautiful aircraft though.

Thanks for the run down. I can see from your comments why there are not very many Spads out there. Sounds like my Newport 17. Beautiful but squirrly on the ground. Sure makes you admire those old WW 1 pilots.
