I predict I will have a whole arenal of awesome flying S.P.A.D. Airplanes made from cheapo materials, tons of flight packs and a lot of balsa guys will be wishing they had what I had.
( Already have about a dozen SPADs.)

In addition, I predict that S.P.A.D. will continue to grow exponentially and we will get many people continuing to say they're butt ugly, they fly like bricks and we should build with balsa.

I predict that Balsa planes will continue to rise in price, fail in quality, and continue to fall in sales.

I predict that flightpacks will be interchangeable via plug-in assemblies on S.P.A.D.S (Oh we already have that) I predict that any naysayers for SPAD airplanes will eat their words sooner rather than later.

I predict that some people will be offended by this post, because they are stubborn and ignorant.

I predict that we will continue to enjoy this sport, whether we fly plastic or wood.

I predict the AMA will make even more money and gain in membership because of all the people getting into Radio Control because they can afford to build a cheap airplane, and sink ther money into great radio equipment to fly their SPAD's.

I predict more countries will join the ever growing of SPAD enthusiasts.

I also predict that if my K & B .40 don't fall off my FQHOR in the next week, I'm gonna fly it so hard, the engine will want to stay on this plane forever, because it will be a marriage made in heaven.

Thanks Kraut and Tattoo and all spadders.

Thanks Marc for a great forum you have here also.
In the states, SPAD's, ARF's and consumerism will have people treating a model airplane like a cheap toy, and won't think twice about the responsibiltiy of hurling a 7-20 pound airplane around in a manner that is reckless, as they could buy a new one next week. Oops, that's already happened...
I read this after I posted and see that some people will blame anything for anything.

SOooooooooo.... a purist builds a plane with all his "care and attention", only he flies like crap and ...to paraphrase you....won't think twice about the responsibiltiy of hurling a 7-20 pound airplane around in a manner that is reckless, as they could buy a new [kit] next week. Oops, that's already happened...

Yeah, um, good point.

The fact is it's not the equipment choice, it's the person flying the plane-and I know we put just as much care into building as you do, we're just not so um. retentive about it- oh and I for one don't go around blaming all the deaths in r/c/ over the many years on balsa airplane fliers either- i just don't know of one major mishap attributed to plastic airplanes.

I predict this thread turning north and taking a good turn instead of a sour one.

I predict that all these SPAD nay-sayers will one day accidently tell someone they have a nice plane, not reallizing it is made of plastic.

In the short time SPADS have been around, it has made leaps and bounds in construction methods. This is due to the low cost of the material and the generosity of fellow spadders that love sharing building techniques and experiances. Check out the scale pages on the SPAD web sites and see what has happened over just a short time. I think you will be surprised.

I predict more people enjoying the hobby (RC flying).

And I predict lots of splinters for balsa flyers, "bagging" their plane at the end of the day.

Model rockets years ago used to be wide open. Now there are government regulations on them because of the use of rockets by the military (no guidance allowed). Big brother is watching the R/C aircraft hobby and will step in and restrict it’s use when they deem that the technology is a threat.

On a lighter note, Plastic and foam will surpass balsa.

Based on the direction things in general seem to be going, I predict that;

First, we will return to the days of requiring an FCC liscense to operate our radios, but now it will require fingerprinting and a security clearance.

Then, the EPA will mandate permitting of each new engine bought, a process which will take about 3 years per engine.

Next, the EPA will require hazardous material handlers liscensing of anyone using liquid fuels...or those battery packs containing heavy metals (Nickel, Cadmium, etc.)

Then, environmentalists will start a "save the balsa tree rain forest" campaign in conjunction with the "coroplast is an evil polymer" campaign.

OSHA will step in and shutdown all fiberglass and composite companies.

Some foolish RC person will build a balsa kit he has had stored in his basement for 50 years and fly it, upsetting the environmentalists above who will then pressure the FCC to ban the radios. The FCC will look at the liscense list, call the Department of Black Helicopters (UNDBH) who will raid everyones home at 1:00 am taking all equipment. As the raid unfolds, a UNDBH pilot will be injured. He will sue all companies that ever produced an airplane, or RC component, win the suit aquiring all money everywhere, which his lawyer will of course get.

Finally, your great grandchildren will be taught about the evil RC movement of the 20th and 21st century in history class!

There, I think I have captured all of the doom and gloom (and conspiracies, couldn't resist the conspiracies)into one post. So while everyone here is home panicking, I predict I will go out and enjoy flying this weekend!

I predict that one day someone will figure out a way to make planes out of used tampons and dirty diapers and call these SPAD guys elitists :-)

Don't know if I'd go as far as used and dirty, but sounds like a great vibration dampner for Rx's and fuel tanks...great idea!

I just thought of something else........in the event of a catastrophic fuel leak - the equipment would be saved from fuel damage by the awesome absorbancy!

I predict that sizes will polarize more.

The small flyers will get smaller. The giant scale flyers will get larger.

I predict that for our own protection from terrorists RC will be banned. The diehards will then switch to Control Line. Apparenty Tower agrees with me, that is why they brought out the Flight Streak and Nobler ARFS. But it will not last long, with large numbers of people flying C/L the careless among us will be flying into power lines much too frequently. Eventually someone will knock out the power of the entire eastern seaboard by wrapping the control lines around some powerlines. Then for our own protection C/L will be banned. The die hards among us will switch to Free Flight. But then their will be too many calls to the Homeland Security Police, mistaking Free Flight for Radio Control. Some people will also use popular Free Flight planes and illegally putting radios in them. Eventually F/F will be banned also. Then the die hards will switch to rubber F/F ...... and so on.

I see in the future

A truce between balsa flyers and Spad flyers. It will be a great thing. We will all fly together in harmony.

The thing about outlawing R/C scares me. We do this to satisfy the craving to fly. If we can't do it in models then we might all try to fly full scale. I don't know about you guys, but some of the people I fly with are great people, but I don't want them flying a real plane. :

It's too late to ban RC. The technology is already there. Not to mention the thousands of existing units already out there. It's just like banning guns, no way will it ever happen. It's just too simple to make your own. The only way to fight terrorism is the way they are doing it now, by hunting the Godless ****s down, and improsoning or killing them.

I see threads like this, and threads claiming that the 'public is against us', and I just giggle to myself. Some people aren't happy doing anything unless there is some sort of conspiracy and/or 'the world is against us' type of mentality attached to it. So rock on, RCers, radios are here to stay.

I predict that someday commercial full scale airplanes will be radio controlled, so they can't be hijacked.

As for the hobby, I also see everyting will be getting bigger BIGger and BIGGER. I don't think that a 70%er would be impossible. Gosh I hope I am wrong on this one.
