I predict that in the R/C future, people will be making predictions about the future of R/C.

My next prediction is that the LAPD will buy several electric gliders with a cheap camera attatched and tell the public they are "High tech survellence devices", costing the tax payer 20-30,000 dollars each.

I predict that we will continue to grow further and further away from the hobby aspect, and gravitate more toward the, "Toy" end of the business. I predict that no one will know how to build a model airplane , much less be able to design one.

I predict that there will always be a core of model builders and designers. Yes the trend will be toward electric which actually with the rapid technology developments in power systems will allow more versatility in the planes designed or modeled. These will be the people that will maintain clubs and flying sites, be they gas or electric or both. The toy end will ebb and flow like most fads and have minimal effect on those few that will carry on traditional modeling with modern materials and techniques.

i suspect that RTF's will become cheaper and encourage more people who dont know the first thing about flying start to fly without insurance and without instructors (we all know thats not a very clever thing to do), resulting in more "incidents" and insurance costs rising and more restrictions on where we fly and more rules at public demonstrations...

also, batteries will get lighter, recievers and transmitter more powerful, servos getting smaller and stronger, ESC's and Motors also getting smaller and stronger and a new era of 1/4a R/C will start!

RC Universe will get bigger and encourage more younger members to explore the world of R/C (i started out with Trucks, but started reading the planes forum and now im hooked!) and RCU will expand, the hobby will get bigger, new technology will appear and R/C flying will come out of the dark

Hiya guys! I can't disagree with anything that's been said recently but a little clarification might not come amiss. Personally, I have 8 planes from RTF to scratch-built, and I only fly electric for my own peronal reasons, mainly club issue (but we're not on this thread for that, are we!). my prediction was based on getting newbies to take up the sport whatever form they want to fly. These "kite things" are called IFO's (you guessed it, Indoor Flying Objects), they're cheap, flown mainly indoors by aged 8-80 and bring flying to the masses. we're not a private members club and the greater diversity of models is all for the good. But of course safety is The Word. I'm retired (aged 55) and fly every day the weather permits, and I'm always building, looking to build or flying. Yes, these things might be classed as toys, but tell that to the football (soccer!!) stadium that 5000 non-flyers attended as spectators in Singapore recently. They paid money to watch and use a buddybox to try flying. I don't care if its a flying b/less lipo Brick as long as it flys (eerrmm, now that's an idea! ).
