Hi guys, I recently purchased a flat out Turmoil foamie for some fun. I am using the geared motor that came with it and find it needs full power just to maintain flight.

I have a 800mah lipo, the standard motor and gearbox combo, 25a esc and 3 9 gram servos.

Can anyone tell me why it is so underpowered? And recommend what to do to fix it?

Thanks.

Had two Flat Outs. Did not like either.

2 or 3 cell Li-Po, and what's the "C" rating? What prop? Does anything get hot, does there seem to be any binding in the gearbox? Any strange noises? Do you have a watt meter to check the amps/volts?

What happens if you don't maintain full throttle? Does it simply slow down enought that it stalls?

I imagine that a bog standard brushed 300 motor will be drawing 5A-7A on 2s... not a lot of power, but it should be enough.... are you sure you have the prop the right way round? I find it worrying that every review I've seen uses a brushless upgrade!

It has a 10 x 3.5 prop the right way round and has a 2s 500mah (not 800).

If I don't maintain full throttle the aircraft sinks or stalls. There is the standard gear train noise but nothing that jumps out as being wrong or not sounding right.

I have even tried hooking up a 2200mah 2s1p for a static test and it has more power but can't fly it like that.

I believe that setup calls for a 3 cell Li-Po. Do you have a 3s battery you can try?

Edit: By the way, the only review I could find that used the stock brushed/gearbox setup was the RCUniverse review. Here is the video with the brushed setup and a 640 mAh 3s Li-Po. Video

You should try using 15 gram servos.
