Hi all! If anyone is interested, Lone Star Models has re-released the Scat Cat Quickie 500 kit by Flight Line. I've been searching for this kit for a while and finally heard news! Just to let anyone else who has been looking.

How much are they selling for these days? Last one I bought was $39 many years ago. Scat cats are still excellent planes for 424 racing and just about as simple/quick building as any kit I have ever seen.

DMyer, the kit is now about $50 bucks, but I just received an email from them stating that it won't be finished until July. I"ll keep everyone posted.

I called earlier today and the girl I talked to said they would be re-releasing the Skooter but didn't have a date. If they can get them out before the end of the year that will give me plenty of time to work them into my building schedule for the winter.

On the Scat Cat, were they designed to be built as a low wing and high wing or strictly a low wing? I had one once but can't recall.

Thanks,,,basmntdweller

Lone Star told me that the Scat Cat would not be ready for 4 to 6 months.

It was a low wing design... very simple, but good, plane.

"Lone Star told me that the Scat Cat would not be ready for 4 to 6 months."

Lone star must be waiting for the box labels or something(it can't be the original plans!).... it only takes about an hour to cut out all the parts needed for several home-grown scat scats by hand.

I have been buying my balsa from Lone Star for years and every time I call, I ask about the ScatCat. I would not bet heavily on a date.

Too bad, it’s a nice airplane. I used to race in Las Vegas against them. I know how fast they go. (past me)

It's weird, I do remember calling them several months ago and get different replies, then I checked out their website and it posted a little info about re-releasing it, so I did place an order since they had it in their catalog and now received that response about another month to go.

It seems everyone here have the same experience from them but I guess I'll have to wait. Anyone else know where to get any good Q-500 planes? It seems the old "Texas Outlaw" is no longer available, "Sonic 500" by ModelTech is gone, etc. etc. Or did this sport just die out?

Max,,, Bill Vargas has his Racer II kits available. I think the 424 version is about $60 and the 428 version is around $100. Both come with pre-sheeted one piece wing. The 428 kit has landing gear and some hardware plus more carbon fiber in the wing.
I have a couple of them and both fly very well.

I ordered a Scat Cat off their Web site. The shipping was going to be $7.50 so I also ordered a few glo plugs and some miscellaneous items that I could use. When I received the order the Scat Cat was listed out of stock and I received the balance of the order with no adjustment on the shipping. I am through with these Clowns. The below link will take you to the kit I will order.

In my opinion the Dominator flies better than the Scat Cat, and is quite a bit faster. The skat cat was good in its day, but its more of a sport airfoil, than a speed airfoil.

Get the Dominator, or a Racer II, and you will be all set.

Thanks to all who replied on the Quickie 500 airplane kits, I did look through several of these sites and noticed that most or all of these planes were high winged. What is the difference between low wing and high wing? My guess is that high wing airplanes you are able to ascend and land at a slower speed than low wing? Also, do anyone know of any other kits still available that is low wing (I guess I like the look of low wing)

I have an old Doddger kit that I'm pretty sure I'll never build. It's a fairly competitive low wing with option to build as conventional, V or T tail setup. Craig Grunkenmeyer designed it many years ago and was kitted by Direct Connection. If you are interested in it let me know.
