Status: offline 		when you get the good engines for eletric do you have to work on them a lot. if so what do you do? ive only had a 17t speed gems and never had to work on the engines. thanks

Status: offline 		They do need regular maintanence.

This is what I do with my motor, a Speed Gem 2 Amythest. Since it's not a high power, low turn motor I skip by with a little less work than some of the faster race motors.

After every 4-5 batterys I pull the end bell off and clean the comm and brushes with a comm pen. I also clean the motor out with some Q-Tips and alcohol (no not the drinking kind).

Every 15 packs or so I turn the comm to get it round again.

Every 30-35 packs I will change the brushes and every 50-60 packs I'll change the springs.

Cleaning the comm and brushes takes about 5-10 minutes.

With high end race motors you should clean the comm every 1-3 packs and have the comm turned ever 3-5 packs if racing. If not racing you can go a little longer.
