Does anyone know if this idea ever caught on. The idea was to mimic full scale IAC where the One Design could be built realitivity cheap with a max engine displament so pilot skill was judge more so than other factors. The R/C IMAC One Design was going to be held to a 1.20 displacment (weight is 10.5 to 13 lbs with a 72 inch wing).

It seems that in today's climate the One Design has pros and cons; 1) pros: those that cannot afford big expensive planes could still compete and be judged mostly on flying skill but 2) cons: there is a thirst for 3D and it is readily avaiable for those with the skill.

Just wondered if the One Design philosophy was alive out there any where?

The idea is dead. People like to build and fly a variety of models, in a variety of sizes. This idea went the same place as the mini-Imac plane concept (limited by engine displacement).

Now if a whole bunch of guys with limited budgets and small planes got together, they could start their own aerobatic series. So far, there hasn't been much interest.

Diablo, This is what I expected has happened. It seemed like a good idea at the out set but with the avaiable power we have today its hard to self impose a limit.
