Bearings aren't cheap. I paid $80 for Boca. My Buku clutch cost $65 I think. Extreme RC pipe $125.

18tz $180. Gearing you might spend $25.

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I used to enjoy 1/8 gas cars back in the 80's. Getting back into it lately, and I bought a fixed up RS4 3 Evo as my start up again car. I have spent several days reading this enormous thread about the RS4's, but I'm sure I'll still have questions to ask.

Are the CVD shafts a worthy investment? I see a shop on ebay that lists 4 shafts for the wheels, and the 2 main shafts all are CV type.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steel-Main-Universal-Swing-Shaft-HPI-Nitro-RS4-3-/130441926079?pt=US_Character_Radio_Control_Toys&hash=item1e5ef1d5bf

http://www.ebay.com/itm/F-R-Steel-Universal-Swing-Shaft-CVD-HPI-Nitro-RS4-3-/200812383496?pt=US_Character_Radio_Control_Toys&hash=item2ec159cd08

Anybody have experience with these units?

I'm wanting to try my car out for drifting, seems like it could be a lot of fun, and no chance of 60+ mph crashes wrecking expensive aluminum parts.

Thanks for any advice.

rx7 and car-tune thanks for the replies, the car should be here in a few days, its in shipping now. Hopefully when it arrives I can add some pictures and get some good advice on anything it needs. The car is mostly complete, but I'm sure it will need things.

I added pictures of my car to my personal gallery. Let me know what you think.

No good. Weighs it down, makes it slower and will break. Plastic parts are flexible.

Well, I hear you on the weight and breakage. But I don't plan on racing this car, its just for occasional use, and no high speed stuff.. Rest of the time its just a show car project. Seems to me that a slightly heavier car will drift smoother maybe?

I'm considering switching the metal top plate back to the HPI plastic one that doubles as a radio/battery box. I don't really like the silver box it has now for the batteries, I looked it up and it was made for the t-maxx anyway.

I'm suprised at the general hostility on this thread over the years towards the aluminum suspension parts. Yes, I know they break, or bend, but so do the plastic ones. Wouldn't the point be to not crash into things at high speed?  lol. As for the weight, the larger 18 engine should help with that I hope. I'm not looking for drag racing, or top speed runs, just short drifting and maybe zooming a little in small area's.

Pretty much almost everything has been upgraded on my car to make it handle better, to make it faster and to make it lighter.

Pinion gears. Second red. First yellow.
37/41 spur gears.
OS 18tz nun pull start ported nitro engine.
OS air filter.
Adjustable motor mounts.
Extreme RC pipe.
Buku Power adjustable clutch.
Carbon fiber f/r shock towers as upper deck.
HPI aluminum shocks and springs.
Sway bars.

Cutting out the back bumper was a good idea I think, should improve cooling flow over the engine.

Those extra turnbuckles on top of the front suspension, are they to fix a weakness? I haven't seen them used much on other cars I looked at.

This site has some interesting tips about the brakes, like using a kyosho disk, and even having double or quad brakes:
http://www.kedar.itgo.com/tipz.html#.21

Its not all for the RS4, but looks like some idea's for it would work.

Nice site. I don't think 4 disk breaks is necessary. Maybe 2 is good. My savage uses 2 disk breaks and it's more than enough.

The turnbuckles added to the front is to reduce the wobble the control arms can't maintain stiff.

Pity about no metal gaskets...   a nice soft copper one would make a great header gasket.
