Hi guys... First post here, I got my RS4 .18SS on Friday, assembled by Saturday and now I'm ready to head to the track!
In the mean time, I've been annoying the neighbours buzzing up and down the street.

The only major gripe I have about this car is the weak brakes. The servo saver for the gas/brake flexes so much that not enough braking force seems to be applied to the disc. Any suggestions you experts might have on mods?

Thanks

OK just bought my first street r/c, have a Savvy and a Rush evo already so no stranger to nitro. I got a first gen RS4 3 off of ebay for $130 but the people say it needs a new sleeve (has a 15fe in it) but I am going to replace it with either a T-15 or an OS 18cv, just waiting for the car to get here so I can see what really needs to be done to it.

Don't go by what other people say. On Hpi's website, it says it feels like the 15fe is loosing compression, because of the fact that they used a different material for the sleeve. Once you warm the engine up, do a compression test, it should be fine.

Tsubaki, look at the brake linkage liek where the grub screw is on the end of the linkage, at idle, is that just slightly contacting the tubing or whatever you have beween that and the brake cam? or you can just run something solid between the grub screw and the linkage like a peice of plastic, this will make the brakes really powerful

Per5lo5, find where something is binding, "my back wheels wont turn" isnt enoguh information to find out the problem, use logic to find the problem, then if needed, take the rear end apart and check everything

I can't believe this thread is still going strong!!! I just picked up another Rs4-3 rtr but I have plans to update it with some goodies. I've been running offroad for a while and sold my Rs4-3 SS a few years back but am getting into it again. I was just wondering what kind of speeds you guys are getting and what the hot engines are now? My last one had a Fantom FR15 and went 62mph but it's been a while and I see much more potential for higher speeds now. I was thinking of dropping in a new TRX 3.3 engine but wanted to hear what other options I had for a potent powerplant.

Everybody that I run with says the OS .18cv-rx is the motor to run, I will know more in a couple of weeks when I get mine and get it in and broke in.

Good info on the brake mod. I was just getting ready to ask a similar question.

I finally got to drive my car for the 1st time last night and the front dog bones kept jumping out and binding when I turn. I ended up putting a piece of rubber on the inboard end of them to keep tension towards the wheel side, its not tight just enough to keep them from walking out of the cups. Will that cause any issues or did i miss something building the car that was supposed to do that for me?

Hello everyone. It's been a very long time that I've been here. To me summer is over so now I have the nitro fever. I ran my RS4 3 this past Friday and its running incredible.

Last time I was here I mentioned I dropped the O.S. 18 CV-RX and the RS4 3 went from quick to fast.

Well, you know what happens when you go fast ..... you end up wanting to go faster. So I swapped the O.S. 18 CV-RX motor out and dropped an O.S. 18 TM Revo motor. Holy sh*t. The car is insanely stupid ridiculous amazingly FAST!!!! I love it.

For you guys that think the O.S. 18 CV-RX is fast in a RS4 3. Well. It's nothing when compared to the O.S. 18 TM - I'm just throwing this info out there.

Glad to be back!

What about the OS.18TZ turbo? Anybody running one of these? Also I need a refresh on what style crank drops in the Rs4-3.

Hi... does any one seal the access to the 2 gear tranny (from below the chassis and behind the fuel tank)? I'm stuck running my RS4 on dirty parking lots and I get rocks stuck in the gears. So, I installed some Lexan shields below the chassis and behind he fuel tank.
The big stuff stays out but I find that the finer particles stay in the tranny area and is pitting my gears.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

O.S. 18tz should run in a RS4 3. I chose not to cuz I didn't want to spend the money nor carry a starter box.

Lol. whats the point in pics? it looks basicly the same as any other os .18. point is, yes it will fit. but it will destroy your gearbox and drive train....as for the tyres well forget about them lasting...

p01rogue,

the pics are not the same, the 18TM is a rear exhaust.

By the way, I've not had my gearbox screw up and in regards to tires - you need the right tires on it so you don't shred them like crazy and it all depends on your driving style as well which will determine whether you shred or don't shred the tires like crazy

hope that helps.

HAs anybody tried using the threaded pinions from the R40 on the Rs4-3? I was just looking through Tower and they look identical and even have the same thickness. I'm just looking for some more gearing options for torque and one for high speed.

no they won't, well not all of them. The r40 centax clutchbell is a step style bell where the second gear part of the bell is larger then the first gear section. Also you can't just put 2 random pinions on there, there is a rule so that you can get proper gear mesh. If you want i can try and explain it

I know all about the gear mesh rules. I went threw tons of spurs learning this a few years ago. You need to have the same tooth gap in the pinions as well as the spurs with no more than a 4 tooth gap between the two. I got away with a 6 tooth gap for a while but it was harder on the 2speed and sometimes when it hit second it would just chew the teeth right off. What about the first gear pinions from the R40? I can see the second gears are 16mm wide but the first gear pinions are the same width as the Rs4-3 gears.
