If I do get the Diablo .18, will I need any conversion for my RS4 Evo?
Maybe just an engine mount and the super chassis?

Also, I was looking at the O.S. .12 and .18.
I still don't understand what the differences are between these two.
They both pull the same torque, but the .12 has higher RPM (in other words revs higher right?)

Doonagoowin, if you get the Diablo .18, you will need to get a special flywheel since it is a short threaded crank. Get the flywheel from the Sportwerks mayhem buggy (ebay- cheap). It will work fine. Everything else is just a normal engine swap (use your stock parts)- need engine mounts. It is standard side exhaust (fits stock pipe). Nothing more to say besides a straight drop-in.

The difference between the OS .12 and .18 is that the .18 has more torque but revs lower than the .12. Also, the .12 is race legal, the .18 is not. Get the .18 if you are a basher. Steve Pond did a review on the EB modded .18tz and said that it pumps out more power than some .21s that he has played with. Also, the .12tz cost way more than the .18 because it is race legal.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I'll go through them all. The pull start is working fine and the motor cranks. Sometimes it sounds like it's right there and wants to fire but doesnt. I'm going to try and richen it up a bit and see if that'll do anything. If it is something inside the motor that's shot, I'll just buy a new Nitro Star T-15. There only $80 on Tower's site. But thanks again guys. Wish me luck. LOL

    hi guys
since the topic is about engine at the moment, would like to ask which engine is the best suited for rs4 particularly 18ss. I know this probably been said in the previous thread but im juz too lazy to back track. Perhaps with the suitable exhaust pipe.

    thanks

For what purpose? Racing? Bashing? Straight line? Drift setup? Grip setup?

Yup, you have to specify what you want.

For track racing, go with a powerful .12 such as the .12tz or sirio .12 (costs a lot more than .18 size engines).

Basically, HPI 18ss (standard plug) or OS .18tz (turbo plug) will do it for anything. The 18tz costs more than 18ss but if you go to rc planet, they are the same price $130.

If os .18tz was a standard plug engine, I would have bought it a long time ago.

i have a question about all this engine talk. the .12 tz only comes in a pilot shaft version right? does everyone have a centax clutch for their rs4's because I've noticed most high caliber engines come in only a sg style crankshaft. or is the rs4 just expected to stay away from the racetrack? the only place ive noticed that carries the centax clutch is rc boyz but they dont have the special engine mounts that it appears you must also have in order to use it.

because without it, it seems that 80 percent of the engines out there are eliminated from list of possible replacements.

gladcow, I am not quite sure what you are saying. What I think you mean is do you need a centax clutch to use sg shaft engines? The answer is no, you don't need to use centax clutch to run an sg shaft engine. I personally run both sg and standard crankshaft engines and I love sg shaft more than standard. The reason is because on sg engines, all you do is just shim the clutch bell until it perfectly aligns with the spur gear. While on standard crankshaft, you have to cut the shaft to make it fit your car. This ruins the engine because what if other people want the engine for different cars. It might not fit theirs properly (kind of dumb).

To use an sg shaft engine, you just have to perform the following mods:
1)Get a clutchnut instead of a pilot shaft.
2)Get ofna's shim kit so you can shim the clutch bell for different positions (extremely useful).

That is basically it. Flywheel, clutch shoes, and everything else is the same. No shaft cutting, nothing. Just shim and run your engine.

I personally have not run any centax clutch because I am only a parking lot basher. I am not serious about racing and do not care for centax clutch. I have heard it is great and is an advantage over the regular clutch. Maybe, I will try it later on but not now.

Thanks maoy, that is some of the most useful information. i was under the impresison you needed a centax clutch to run an sg style crank. it only works the other way around where you need an sg style shaft to use a centax clutch. so in order to run a sg style crank all i would need are these two items?

Actually, you do not need the shim kit. You have to get the clutch bell kit. That clutch nut you have should work. That should be about it. Good luck.

Hey riggosdad, I would recommend a Peak Racing Diablo .18. Look around, you can probably find it for $100 because it is discontinued. Look at stormerhobbies.com or somewhere else. That motor will tear your car apart. It is very powerful. I had it and it has the torque for a monster truck (tmaxx) but revs like a .12 size engine (37,000+ rpm). Any engine made for the tmaxx monster truck is powerful and there were many small blocks made for the tmaxx that are discontinued. If you can find any for a discount, buy it. Best damn motor you can get for the price. Super powerful and super high revving.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll be selling my new 12.r ss on ebay!
