$300 - wow. I thought you bought a competition engine. You should have upgraded to an OS .18tz instead. Well, let us know how the G3.0 turns out. The stock flywheel should fit for the g3.0 even though it is an sg shaft engine (should not matter). I am not sure about the short or long pipe.

Hey Jpsonoma, nice rs4. What is your final gear ratio?

Well, I got too impatient/anxious. I really wanted to be in tomorrow's race, so I just bought this engine because all the others needed a starter box, and I wasn't going to spend 300 dollars on engine alone, then another 200 on extras. The G3.0 was the only pullstart they had.
This flywheel doesn't work because it will not go past the threaded are of the SG shaft. The T3.0 was a standard shaft, and I dunno why, but it won't fit on the G.

Had I known that I would have needed a new flywheel, I probably would have skipped out on the race and ordered an OS anyways. Man, regret...
Oh well. The good part was that I scored a set of Jaco shoes for 10 bucks because nobody would buy them haha.

The guy told me to get the G3 and not wait for the special order if I wanted to race tomorrow. It's 100 cheaper, but still has about the same power. Oh well eh? Live and learn.

EDIT: Since I can't make the race tomorrow anyways, I think I"m going to return the G3 because I've only opened it to check and get the HPI header and order in the O.S.
Just to make sure, could you guys give me a site/exact name/part number so I can tell the guy what to order?

It should be the short version that you want. Here is a link.

Thanks Maoy, I appreciate the complimnet. I'm not sure what the final ratio comes out too, but I'm running a 24 tooth pinion and a 37 tooth spur for my second gear if that helps.

final gear ratio: (37t spur / 24t pinion) * (assuming 18ss stock drivetrain: 38t / 13t ) = 4.5 final ratio. With the .18tz, I think you probably are running around 65mph top. That's pretty cool. Hey, try running losi 19t/26t clutch bell. This will give you a final ratio of 4.15. You can also upgrade the drivetrain gear to 36t and 14t. This upgrade will give you a final ratio of 3.65. You should be able to hit 70 mph. If you can try the losi gears and upgrade your drivetrain, let me know if the engine is still able to pull the car with such a tall gear ratio. My diablo .18 was having a rough time taking off with 3.8 final ratio. Which is why I am running a .21 in my car now. If you are able to pull such a tall gear ratio, I might go back down to a small block engine because they have more bodies to choose from.

I can't run that Losi clutch bell, I'm using a centax clutch, not the standard centrifigual clutch. But thanks for the tip, maybe I can use that clutch bell in one of my other cars.

    Could I use this pipe with a o.s. 18tz on my rs4 3 Evo?

Installed a Dynamite throttle/break linkage in mine. The servo saver was sticking when the breaks were applied. Usint my DSM DX3R and an OFNA 800mah battery.

Verry happy with it. It hauls a$$!

Would this be the engine we're talking about, maoy?
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHLV6&P=7

Do you guys know which, if any, of these are good starter boxes? I'm mainly going to use it for the RS4 for now, but I know I will get other cars later on.

About the engines, I can't find what the deal is with the pilot and standard shaft. I know what they look like and what they are, but why are there two different ones?

Doonagoowin, the engine below is the one you want to get. It should be a standard drop in ($130 from rcplanet). The one you have listed is $121 from rcplanet (cheaper than towers).

    URL:
    http://www.rcplanet.com/O_S_18TZ_TX_w_Rotary_Carb_p/osm11943.htm

I think you mean standard shaft and sg shaft. Standard shaft requires a pilot shaft in order to use the clutch bell; it also requires you to cut the shaft to fit your car (not always). SG shaft on the other hand does not require anything. SG shaft just requires you to shim the clutch bell until you get it to where you want it position at (no cutting); use ofna clutch bell kit. I personally would go with sg shaft so that I don't have to cut the crankshaft period.

I don't have any experience with starter box but I am buying one this upcoming week for my new engine. What I have learned is that starter boxes should be universal for 1/8 or 1/10 (even both) depending on what the manufacturer says. You can use two nicad stick batteries for it or you can use a gel cell battery. Gel cell battery can hold up to 7200 milliAmps or more at 12v output. This means if the starter box drains 7200 mA an hour (it should be way less but take this as an example), the batter will last one hour. Basically this gel cell battery will last you all day.

I went racing with my rs4 yesterday. Installed my brand new chassis 3mm thick by team Blue Star. First tank of gas, went right into cement pole. The impact was so hard that my battery flew out. The front chassis bend like 45 degrees (weak a$$ chassis). My tie rod came off, my clip for the battery case broke, my throttle arm on the carb came off, and my exhaust popped off. It was crazy. Got some pics below to show it.

Oh, forgot to mention that you need a clutch nut for sg shaft engines. It is the equivalent of the pilot shaft.

Oh ok, you cleared up confusion with the different types of shafts too. I thought pilot and SG shaft were the same thing. Turns out the pilot shaft is an extension for the standard shaft. SG shaft is the entire shaft in one engine, so I'd only need a clutch nut.

Standard shaft = clutch nut with pilot shaft
    SG shaft = clutch nut

    Am I correct there?

And maoy, how are the Team Blue Star things? I ordered some aluminum knuckles from them, paid via money order on Tuesday, and I still haven't received my order yet. I'm guessing it's because they received the money order on Friday and didn't ship because it was the weekend.

Actually, the standard shaft = pilot shaft (no clutchnut because the pilot shaft is already the clutch nut).

Team Blue Star is okay. The chassis I bought on ebay stated 4.5mm thick. I got the chassis and it is only 3mm thick with some lines that go across the chassis that is 4.5mm thick. I think team blue star did this to decrease the weight of the chassis. I would much rather prefer 4.5mm for the complete chassis and not just parts of it. Right now, my .21 conversion is creating a very bad chassis flex and I need a very strong chassis. I would not recommend anybody buying a super chassis unless you perform a big block conversion. It is kind of a wa
