^video of my rs4 at "idle"

Sup guys, I'm having problems getting my car to actually idle. I have the idle screw set pretty much as low as it can be. Back the screw out any more the engine cuts out. Today was the second day that I ran the car since rebuilding it, so the clutch (HPI A885) is pretty fresh. Initially, I was having the same idle problem yesterday and I was thinking that maybe the clutch was engaging early. I did not cut any clutch material off when I installed. I asked for some input on another forum it was suggested that if I felt the idle was set correctly, that I should just go ahead and run the car to allow the clutch to break in some rather than cutting any material off. I've put the car through about 3-4 tanks now and you can see pretty clearly how high it's still idling, lol.

Another suggestion was made to me that I should lean the low-end a bit, anyone else have some input as to what can remedy this? Thanks

Does anyone have problems stripping their front axles? I was running mine today any it popped out and locked the whole system i thought i broke something major but it ended up being one of the front axle. I was just wondering if anyone had problems stripping that?  I put another o ring in the diff and it fixed it.

Limeaway510,

Can you take a picture of the carb barrel when the engine is running at idle? It sounds like the engine is running to
fast for an idle. The clutch is engaged as a result. You might need to adjust the low end needle to get it to slow down.

@jamesc43 I've fixed the problem since that post! The servo horn was set in a position that pushed the throttle linkage just a little bit too far forward, thus giving me that false idle as the carb opening was bigger than 1mm. Just needed to rotate the horn a bit and problem solved. Appreciate the help though!

@rx7devil210 I think that's a problem with all rs4s (dogbones popping out). It's happened to me a couple times, and you're correct in adding another o-ring to fix the problem. It may be different for you, but I found that adding two o-rings to both of the diff outdrives caused the dogbones to be too tight. You do want a LITTLE bit of play, but as you've discovered too much play leads to the bones popping out.

Instead of two o-rings on each side, I used one on each side, then I sliced up some thinner 'o-rings' using some extra fuel line. This removed a majority of the dogbone slop, but didn't cause any binding and also prevented the bones from popping out.

Alright i was bashing today and for some reason the car wouldnt roll forward when i gave it throttle. So i turned it off and checked it at my work table to see that the servo wasnt working and was frozen. Luckily it wasnt at full throttle when it froze or i would of had some major damage. I called hpi and they are sending me a free replacement. Anyone had any problems with there stock servo going out??

Alright guys im waiting for my throttle servo to come in and had a couple questions.  Ive never installed a servo before so i was wondering how to install it to make it perfect? I dunno what to do? How to install where the servo is striaght? Meaning that it wont have the carb open when i install it so it does have a perfect idle. Basically i thought about turning on the reicever and controller and making that the install point where the carb has enough opening so it will idle good. You guys get it??

I am looking for a different pipe for my RS4.

I am running an OS18 CV-RX with a Vantage pipe now. What is another pipe that will perform nicely with the OS engine?

I used the carbon fiber vintage pipe before and I didn't like it. Now I use O.S pipe on my 18tz.

Carboy, do you have a link to the OS pipe?

Jacked, i had the THS pipe in my MT2 and i didnt really like it. The stinger is kind of small and i think that restricts air flow and power.

Any other suggestions? How is the HPI pipe?

I notice they also make a R70 pipe, which has a larger stinger.

Do you have a link to that one?

I have the new stock pipe on my car and it seems to be pretty good

If the stinger is bigger you will lose top end on your motor. That's why I didn't like the vantage carbon fiber pipe, the stinger was too big. I think it was only good for drag racing with a ported engine. But if you get a small stinger it will work good with your engine because these engines work on high rpm's. On a on road race or bash you hardly idle then launch.

I just wish the THS pipe had a bigger stinger. I have the THS pipe on my Super Nitro with an OS18 and it is so quiet.
