So how do you do it? How do you wait for stuff to come. I can't stand waiting for something in the mail. Plus if I am not here to receive the package the mailman does not leave it. This just adds to the wait time. Buying locally sucks. The LHS's here (Miami FL) over charge like crazy. I would say at least a 30% mark up. Plus the service is just horrible. I am not sure how these stores stay in business. Are stores this bad everywhere? So anyway I got a motor and esc on order and I can not wait to get it and install.

I ordered a pack of 2 LiPo batteries for my V4 from Hong Kong. Took 28 days to arrive. On top of that we were out of town when they made it, so it was 36 days before I had my batteries in hand.

You're right. Its horrible having to wait. All because I wanted to save 5 bucks, lol.

Yes, it is defiantly a trade between speed and cost/convenience

I make a point to place part orders that I need to get my helis back in the air with American Hobby stores, such as USHobbySupply & Jag Hobbies. I usually fly all weekend long and break or strip something by Sunday afternoon or night so I place my order that night. I've never recieved my parts more than 4 days from ordering. I pay only a few bucks more for the parts but am happy on the quality of customer srvc & speed of order.

Now if I can wait 3 weeks and/or my parts list is extensive enough to want to save big $$$....then I go with ToyRC or HobbyCity or some other Hong Kong/China supplier. I usually get my order in 10 days if I go this route but once it did take 3 weeks.

I have several online shops I go to and my wait is 2 days max. Actually ends up being quicker than me finding time to make it to my LHS

local hobby shops stink to high heaven. here is why someone comes in a noob.. and the first thing they want to sell them is some cheap rtf TOY rc that they cant even give away..or a trainer kit beginner kit and say you can aways UPGRADE if you like the hobby .. why do they do this mmmm ..so they can sell you more stuff ..

I'm a firm believer in supporting my LHSs, but I have placed many orders from non-local/international vendors. When I'm shopping for an expensive item, I usually call my LHS first to check pricing/availability. If an outside vendor's price is >15% cheaper(shipping inclusive), the LHS will get the sale. But more often than not, the LHS simply can't compete with the higher volume hobby houses. I do, however, exclusively rely on the LHSs for smaller items/finishing supplies.

well the only reason I bought off internet was cause my LHS
don't carry ESKY now I get into align...
Good thing they can help me

I think Canada increased border tax cause of the economy..
they used to charge none till $100
now they charge 50 for 100 bux
and 10 for 20 bux item

Hey I have seen there comercials on tv. That guy is crazy!!! Looks like a pretty cool shop but it is still 30-40 miles from me. I may have to check it out sometime. I am just never up that way during the day.

Thanks guys for all the other responses. I will check out USHobbySupply and Jag Hobbies. If I can order on monday and get it by friday then that is all I ask. But waiting 2-3 weeks for something is just too much for me.

I prefer mail order. It allows me to receive my parts w/o actually taking any of my time to drive to the hobby store.

Here is how I think of the trip to the hobby store.
1. 1 hour and 10 minute round trip
2. About 5-20 minutes waiting for someone to help me and hope that they have my part.
3) Spend 20-40 percent more then online parts
4) spend about 4 dollars in gas
5) Spend 10 percent in sales tax

If I order something online then I do not have to take any of my own personal time because the product comes right to me. I also save money on the parts as well as gas. The only downfall is the wait but honestly I have much more important things going on in my life and waiting for parts is not a top concern. The Pro's of mail order heavily out weight the cons.

Just ordered a radio and other electronics from hobbyparts.com. Prices seemed great but they require a signature on deliver becaue I live in an apartment. Well I am not home during the day and now the parts are being returned to the store. Man I am pissed. Guess I wasn;'t meant to be in this hobby.

Why not have it delivered to your job?

I used to be the same way, and wondered how guys can wait for parts ordering on-line. I found the answer a year and a half later, and realized the heli's will gradually teach you to have patience.
