Beware of landing the Viper with too high a nose attitude. It does not like it & more easily drops a wing. They like to land with a virtually flat attitude.
Don't know if crow alters that. I have never tried it.

Hi All,

Am maidening my Large Skymaster Viper this weekend, and am a bit nervous since we fly at 6300 feet and with the summer heat and the high altitude, the air is thin and planes DONT LIKE TO SLOW DOWN on our 625 foot runway.

DOES ANYBODY USE CROW??? IF YES, COULD YOU EXPLAIN HOW MUCH, AND WHEN YOU SET IT ON APPROACH????

Thanks in advamce guys!

Shaz

Hi Shaz,

I use about 1 - 1.5cm of up aileron as crow. Maybe it could use even more, but this works for me. On my landing, I set it (obviously) together with the flaps-down, on the down-wind leg. I cut the throttle before the last turn, and it floated right in.

My viper only had three flights so far, so I'm no expert by any means :

Hans

I completed 3 flights with my Viper and the only thing I can say is WOW.........

This plane is so easy to fly that even I can land it

The plane was equipped with the following:

Jet Central Rhino Turbine
Futaba 9157 servos
Powerbox Royal
Airpower EVSD-5U-Evo
Fromeco batteries

This plane is a fantastic trainer but at the same time, it could be a great performer.

SM Viperjet experts,

Question? how much time for your timers for the Viperjet using a Jetcat P160SX? I am about to maiden mine and I was thinking to setup for about 7 minutes? I heard it can fly for 10 minutes?
Are you guys using a gyro for the nose wheel?

Regards,

Gonzalo

Hi Gonzalo

Mine is set for 8 minutes and I've never used a gyro for nose steering

Cheers

Gonzalo:

You will absolutely love this plane. It has no bad tendencies and it's so easy to fly.

Mine is setup for 6 minutes of flying time...... I know, I know.... it is a little bit conservative but we do fly in a very small and narrow runway so I prefer to have plenty of fuel for going around in case it's necessary. With six minutes and then the approach and landing time, I still have 3/4 of the bottom tank.

No gyro on the nose wheel, but having said that, the tail of the plane moves a lot when there's wind, so maybe a gyro in the tail wouldn't be a bad idea. We are starting the windy season here and it can last until April, so I'm going to think about it.

If you ever come to Santiago, let us know. We fly near the Panamericana Norte and in our club you will find several jets and scale helicopters (Vario... what else )

By the way..... for a long time I've been admiring your Lama. I've been tempted several times to get one. Currently I own a Bell 412 gasser version and a Benzin Trainer that I want to change into a EC145.

OMG I had the chance today to maiden my Viper and what a plane! It flew incredibly well and the landing was just a ****cat! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!
The retracts works super well enven though I didn’t change anything in the cylinders….. or reposition them…. I just put 110PSI…. and the brakes what can I say superb!….. can hold the Jet at full power.

Thank you to all of you for all the suggestions on this site!

Special thanks to Ali for the inspiration and to SM for the Viper ARF Pro that save me tons of hours on building!

Gonzalo,

Very nice work!

I see you have mounted your second tank on top of the main vs. up in the turtledeck as shown in the Skymaster docs. I have seen builds done both ways. Can someone outline the tradeoffs in choosing the two locations?

Dave

How can I find the mess in all that mess? Very nice/clean install... very professional looking! I like the added touch with the shrink over the hose ends.
