im in the process of building a 40 size GP cap 232,
im allmost ready to cover, and i was thinking about going with twin alerion servos, would it give me much of a advantage in aerobatics and such ?
all of my other planes have twin alerion servos, even my 30 size waco. i know one downside is more weight, but i like added flexability in my planes. i allready have a good idea how i could rig it in my current setup.

My Kyosho Cap232 .40 size has 2 ailerons in the wing.
Why not, post pictures when you're done.

It is better to have 2 aileron servos than one.
I am not sure what kind of power your will have with the plane.
if you are going to do some precision aerobatics and some 3Ds, you need to have 2 aileron servos because of flaperon/spoileron mixing with elevator.

having 2 oz closer to CG is much better than 2 oz on Nose or Tail.
I am sure you will find a good way to locate aileron servos.

good luck

Lorduss. . .You don't say what brand Cap you are working on, but I just finished my 40 size Cap 232 by Hanger9, an ARF that came with a servo box in each wing, so I just fed my leads to the center and used individual extensions to ch1 and ch6 on my Futaba 6XA. I preferred not to use a Y harness they suggested, as I may program in flaperons. As this has the sport wing it must have a low stall speed as i don't need flaps on landing as yet. I thought the design kinda demanded a servo in each wing for better response. Even with the sport wing, the plane will still snap as I found out, but did not expect.

George,

Lorduss said it is a GP Cap 232.
Unless I have a 4 channel radio, I wouldn't use Y-extension.

two servo's are the go. I put two servos for ailerons in the last park flyer I built.

If you use two mini servos (eg hitec 225) then the combined weight is only slightly more than one standard servo. That is the way I am going with my GP Cap which I am building at the moment.

I have never used a single servo for the ailerons since my trainer.

Sprink is right about the Hitec 225... It is 1 once and has 54/0.14@4.8 and 67/0.11@6.0, which is far stronger and faster than a standard servo. I use this whenever the application calls for it.

Pattern . . .Sorry I did not see GP in the post by Lorduss...just scanned right by it. I did remember there was a Moscow in Idaho. As I recall, RC guys fly a lot of Migs there.

I've heard bad things about 225's on 40 size planes. The gear-trains are plastic and pretty weak. They tend to fail under the loads that they'll experience in a 40 size plane. I know that the ailerons will be easier on servos than elevators, but it isn't worth the savings.

Then again, I know that there are folks out there that have had luck doing this. You need to evaluate your risk v. reward tolerance.

What engine are you going to use?

If you are going on the large side, and tend to fly fast, You should definately use standards. If you are going in the middle of the range, and tend to manage the throttle when you fly, you will get more reward and less risk if you choose to use 225's.

My 2cents.

I would not use the 225 as a direct replacement for a standard servo unless I thought that the std servo was overkill, but here I'm using two instead of one standard servo, so beleive the risk is low.

I am going with a big engine (Saito 91), but I never fly fast. I have enlarged the ailerons a bit, and will be using high power coreless servos for rudder and elevator.

Good luck with that. I hope no one gets hurt.
