New Plane for 100cc Engine
Hi guys...
I'm looking for a great 3D high performance plane for a DA100 engine that I have available.
What are your thoughts. I know about some that are pretty good, but I'm looking for some more answers. I like Yaks and Edges the best, but am open to anything at this point.
Pros and Cons please.
Thanks
Barry

If I had to get down to one and only one plane. It really wouldn't be that hard of a choice.
Extreme Flight 110" Yak

Hey Barry,
You may have to point out to some responders where you live and the altitude causing performance issues?????
I don't think a 110" Yak on a DA-100 is going to cut it for you.
I haven't gotten my 2.6 Comp-Arf finished yet (yeah I'm slow) but right now the two models that T.O.M (Pat) mentioned would be the ones I'd look into closer.
Oh, little brother says he's trying to get his Mustang done by Memorial Day, I appreciate you offering assistance....[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

RE: New Plane for 100cc Engine
Barry,
putting in a second vote for the PAU Edge or Wild Hare Edge (or Extra). The PAU has a HUGE wing area (over 2200 sq in), and the WH planes have very large wings as well (around 2000 sq in). The Edge and Extra airframes are very streamlined and the smaller volume fuses require less power to fly than a high fuse volume Yak design (Extremeflight or Pilot-RC).
That being said, the Pilot-RC is a nice plane and the Extremeflight Yak is really an outstanding plane - likely the best all-around choice. However it may be a bit too draggy at 5000' on a DA-100. It might require at least a BME 116 at that elevation.
My Dad has a Somenzini Yak on a DA-100 and it flies great at 4500', but by comparison it has a tiny, short fuselage that doesn't require a lot of thrust (some 50cc planes have about the same size fuse). AFAIK they are sold out everywhere so that is a moot point anyhow.
If you would consider an Extra, the new 3D Hobby Shop Extra 300SHP is really outstanding as well. Scott Stoops designed it for electric or gas power at his elevation, which is about the same as yours. It has that same "gunfighter" single-seat cockpit design as the Edge 540 and is very appealing (to me anyway). Super light, and extremely capable. link here: http://www.3dhobbyshop.com/detail.aspx?ID=2471

The Wildhare planes are a very good choice. I have the Extra and fly at 5200 ft with a 100cc engine and it flies very well. The Edge is coming in at 25 or 26 pounds and the performance would be awesome.
Like BTerry said the 3D Hobby Shop 300SHP would be a great choice also. Scott Stoops flies at my field and I have seen this plane fly a lot. Very nice plane.

Let me make another suggestion. The Wild Hare 106" Giles G202 is light, has a huge wing area and is something a bit different from the rest of the pack.
The Giles flies exceptionally well, it flies like a pattern plane that also does excellent 3D, a superb combination.
At 5000' a DA-100 will be plenty, or a DL-111 or BME-116 or even a 110 if you can find one.

I have both the PAU Edge 36% and the PAU Ultimate 37%. Both are awesome planes. The Edge comes with high quality hardware, linkages, etc. The ultimate is the absolute best value on the planet at $649. I'm not a 3-D pilot, but both of these airframes are awesome for that based on videos I've seen. I've also had experience with the Thunder Tiger/SD Models 35% yak. It flies well and quality is first rate.

RE: New Plane for 100cc Engine
Barry,
I don't fly at 4600 ft., but my plane has gobs of power with a 25x12x3S Three blade. I bet you would be just fine with a DA-100 and stock mufflers if you wanted an 110" Yak. If you want it's real easy to drop a set of pipes in the tunnel. Robert Vess is doing a great build thread on FG now. He is building one with a DA85 and one with a DA100 and comparing the two setups. How are you liking your 88"?
You live in a nice area. We stopped one time on a motorcycle trip and camped off of Moose Creek rd. in Victor.

Thanks for the input. These are some excellent choices. I'm still considering.
RCTOM...Do you have the Giles in stock? Also, what about the 35% Edge, in stock? And one more...35% Sukhoi, in stock?
Thanks so much guys. I appreciate the insight. Sometimes it'd difficult to think of all the options yourself.
Thanks
Barry

cjcyclesrc...
I'm liking my 88 very well. I've only got 11 flights on it. I'm having engine problems.
One thing I have noticed...So far I haven't been able to get the 88 to do a real good inverted flat spin. With zero throttle it isn't too bad but as soon as I pick the throttle up it rolls out real bad. I've very good at flat spins and all my planes do them. I'm hoping I can change the balance or something and improve this area. Soon as I get the engine running again, I'll experiment. Other than that, it's a great flyer.
Thanks
Barry

RE: New Plane for 100cc Engine
Barry,
If you are looking for something a smaller and faster. I can get you a very good deal on a new DR Hobbies 2.6m Composite Extra. It would cost about the same as the Wood ARF's mentioned. The DR is very close to a Comp-Arf except it has a wing tube instead of the spars. The one I can get is the wine/white scheme.

You can talk to Deitrich and find out they are trying to have one late this summer, maybe fall. Perhaps the feller who started the thread is willing to wait? I am, since I have too.

I don't need to buy a Wild Hare. I get to fly T.O.M.'s I'm sure he'll have one of those before too long.

rctom,
Are those the same wings as the ones on this plane?
