Hi all you rc-submarine maniacs, first time for me here in this section. But has been writing on the rc tank section. I'm realy in to scale rc tanks

But you see, I have always been facinated by submarines and always thought that rc submarines is scratch built super expensive equipment. Until I found the Graupner U-16, bought it for fun. I thought, "since I cant build one and can't afford one of them larger scales this one is perfect!" and now she patrols my aquarium. Brilliant peice of engineering for the money spent.

Problem is that this little mini sub has set something in motion, I just got to have a larger scale sub. And that lead to alot of searching and reasearching. I found out that 1/72 subs arent that expensive that I thought and in many cases they are converted from static model kits (wich were suprisingly low price).

So I was woundering if you sea captains could help a land crab like myselfe? What kit is more like a beginners kit? Is it eaven possible to keep it below 1000EUR? Is 1/72 subs worth to get?

I have been looking at this kit: Revell Type VIIC Conversion Set 1/72 http://www.rcsubs.sub-club.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=24&Itemid=29
Any thoughts about it? Anyone know what a kit like that might cost and were I can get one?

Lots of questions from Sweden,
Many thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Gabriel

PS. Damn Graupner, they should not sell them mini subs.. dangerous stuff!!! DS

you can also consider the Trumpeter SeaWolf and Trumpeter Kilo for conversion.
Because they are round, the water tight compartment is easier to build/cheaper to purchase
standard round WTC's can be bought from e.g. Big Dave Welch. I made one for the Kilo
from drainpipe.

I do not have ota's conversion kit, but the Revell VIIc is very small to build the needed
equipment into. Ota is a very gifted modeller.
For a first boat, you should keep things as easy as possible.

another possibility is the Conrad/Robbe Seawolf, a fantasy model, fairly cheap.
can be made into a static diver as a phase II, after you have succesfully completed the
kit out of the box.

good luck !

A shame I just sold my type 7c

But if the heart is set on the type 7 there are a few different kits available. The one you posted, there is one made by gid Dave, and another sold by caswell. As far as I know Caswell is the only one offering a kit that replaces the control surfaces with ones that are ready to be RC.
Here is a look at that kit

Hi Gabriel,

Like you, i'm also into the tanks (Heng Long) and I also have a couple Walmart subs, which I modified from help of the users of this forum. They are low cost and for me alot of fun....but must admit i'd like something bigger in scale on both Subs and Tanks. I may just build my own sub to get my feet wet on something larger in scale.

Many thank's for the answers guys I have some things to think about. More reaserch aswell :P

A kit sounds challangeing, but expensive if it's built wrongly.. I think I prefer something in betwen a kit and rtr, if there is such thing that is.

Gabriel

inbetween RTR and a kit ? that's a perfect fit for a ThunderTiger Neptune.
that kit is screwed together, not much more is needed. it looks like a
research sub.

youtube film of it

otherwise, do not forget to check out european sellers like
www.modelluboot.de and www.lecma-rc.com to get a
feeling what is involved/available.

I love my Graupner U-16 it's a lot of fun did a cool video of it. An underwater video in Jackson creek Bloomington, IN.
Using the Flip Ultra for the video and made my own MacGyver type of waterproofing.
