Well, are you guys sure about those RPM's?

Out of the plane I can get 8500 out of a Zinger 12x8 (didn't have a 12x6) That is backed off a peak of 8900. I got a hold of an article from Clarence Lee in RCM and he was only getting 9700 out of a YS63 on the zinger 12x8 on the same type of fuel. (20/20). I would think that 1K to 1.2 K off the 63 would be about right. I think I am going to put her back in the plane and prop her down to a 12x4 and put some flight time on the engine. I am also going to cut some air holes so I am sure there is sufficient air flow to the engine. I think the Zinger is a stronger prop based on the CL article..

My 53 spins an APC 13x6 @ 11,000 on 25% fuel. I beleive that the zingers load down a little more than the APCs do but I dont run them so that may not be correct. At any rate you should easily be spinning an APC 12x6@ 11,000 on 20/20. For sure prop down and give it another go.

I think that the 63 turns ~800 rpm higher on same prop same fuel than the 53 does so you dont sound too far off but better to prop down to something very common and compare to what others on here have gotten.

WOW,
What a difference a prop makes. The little YS will now turn about 12K peaked. I backed her down to 11K and she is solid on an 11x8 prop. The Zinger 12 x 8 was just too much prop. With a MAS 11x8 she will flat go. She pulled over my work mate. (The little cheap kind) I had to set my flight box on the base to keep it upright!

I AM A BELIEVER. This little engine ROCKS

Thanks everyone for your help and Dave @ YS,

I'm going flying

Crash;

Glad to see you got everything worked out. 12/8 is a bit heavy for the 53. I'm running an 11/8 master airscrew Scimitar at 11,800. This engine has ran the 11/8 prop it's whole life and outlasted 3 or 4 planes. My new 63 is running a 12/8 scimitar at 11,400 but it only has 4 tanks through it and I'm still running it pretty rich. But it's time to adjust it where i want it.
You will get to love these engines after all the trial and error.

Good Luck and Happy Flying!

Just for grins I put a MAS 12x8 and it would pull all the way up to 10K. This tells me the Zingers either move a bunch more air or are very draggy. Not sure which one. But there is almost a 2K difference between a MAS and Zinger? It is happy with either the 11x7 or the 11x8 as Dave recommended.

I am glad to hear you got your 53 up and running. My YS 63 is the only 4 stroke I own and I LOVE IT.

Its glad to hear that there is another YS believer out there.
